Answer:

See below in bold.

Step-by-step explanation:

y = -x^2 - 2x - 5

Convert to vertex form:

y = -(x^2 + 2x) - 5

y = - [(x + 1)^2 - 1] - 5

y = -(x + 1)^2  + 1 - 5

y = -(x + 1)^2 - 4

So the vertex of the graph is at (-1 , -4) and it is a maximum because the coefficient of x^2 is negative.

So the range is all values of f(x) up to and including -4.

In interval notation this is (-∞, -4].

Mr thompson wants to protect his garage by installing a flood barrier. He connects 2 barriers side by side. Each barrier is 9 ft
VLD [36.1K]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Mr Thompson wants to protect his garage by installing a flood barrier. He connects 2 barriers side by side. The length of each flood barrier is 9 ft while the height of each barrier is 2 ft. The barriers are rectangular in shape. The area of each rectangular barrier is expressed as length × height.

Therefore

Area of each barrier is 9 × 2 = 18 ft^2

The combined area of the barriers would be

18 × 2 = 36 ft^2
