The complete combustion of a sample of propane produced 2.641 grams of carbon dioxide and 1.442 grams of water as the only produ
ohaa [14]
A general equation for a combustion reaction would be expressed as follows:

CxHy + (x+y/2)O2 = xCO2 + y/2H2O

Propane would obviously would only have carbon and hydrogen in its structure. Assuming a complete combustion, all of the carbon atoms would go to carbon dioxide and all of the hydrogen atoms to water. To determine the empirical, we determine the number of carbon and hydrogen atoms present.

moles C = 2.461 g CO2 ( 1 mol / 44.01 g ) ( 1 mol C / 1 mol CO2 ) = 0.06 mol C

moles H = 1.442 g H2O ( 1 mol / 18.02 g ) ( 2 mol H / 1 mol H ) = 0.16 mol H

Then, we divide the smallest amount to the each mole of the atoms. We do as follows:

C = 0.06 / 0.06 = 1
H = 0.16 / 0.06 = 2.67

Then we multiply a number in order to obtain a whole number ratio between the atoms.

What is the name of(NH4)3PO4
Tju [1.3M]

Answer:

What is the name of the compound (NH4) 3PO4? (NH)4+ is an ammonium radical and (PO4) 3- is a phospate radical. When we start writing the compound,the valency of phosphate goes to ammonium as subscript,and that of ammonium goes to phosphate. Hence the formula (NH4)3 PO4 and it's name is ammonium phospate.

If you mix a 25.0mL sample of a 1.20m potassium sulfide solution with 15.0 mL of a 0.900m basium nitrate solution and the reacti
ddd [48]

Answer:

Limiting reagent: barium nitrate

Theoretical yield: 2.29 g BaS

Percent yield: 87%

Explanation:

The corrected balanced reaction equation is:

K₂S + Ba(NO₃)₂ ⇒ 2KNO₃ + BaS

The amount of potassium sulfide added is:

(25.0 mL)(1.20mol/L) = 30 mmol

The amount of barium nitrate added is:

(15.0mL)(0.900mol/L = 13.5 mmol

Since the reactant react in a 1:1 molar ratio, barium nitrate is the limiting reagent. If all of the limiting reagent reacts, the amount of barium sulfide produced is:

(13.5 mmol Ba(NO₃)₂)(BaS/Ba(NO₃)₂ ) = 13.5 mmol BaS

Converting this amount to grams gives the theoretical yield of BaS (molar mass 169.39 g/mol).

(13.5 mmol)(169.39 g/mol)(1g/1000mg) = 2.29 g BaS

The percent yield is calculated as follows:

(actual yield) / (theoretical yield) x 100%

(2.0 g) / (2.29 g) x 100% = 87%
