In carrying out an analysis of a mixture, what do you expect to see when the TLC plate has been allowed to remain in the develop

ing chamber too long, so that the solvent front has reached the top of the plate
Chemistry

Lemur [1.5K]3 years ago

Answer:

See explanation

Explanation:

In TLC, the plate is spotted at a point above the solvent front and the solvent moves up the plate by capillary action leading to the separation of the various components of the mixture spotted on the plate.

However, if the TLC plate is allowed to remain in the developing chamber for too long such that the solvent front reaches the top of the plate, the components of the mixture will recombine at the top of the plate and cancel out any separation which may have occurred on the plate.

vekshin1

Answer:

A:  (Z)-3-chloro-4-ethyl-2,5-dimethyl-3-hexene

B: (<em>cis</em>)-3-chloro-4-ethyl-2,5-dimethyl-3-hexene

Explanation:

The two two heavier groups around the double bond are chlorine and isopropyl.

Both of these heavier groups are on the same side therefore, they are designated as cis or Z conformer.

A stock solution of HNO3 is prepared and found to contain 13.1 M of HNO3. If 25.0 mL of the stock solution is diluted to a final
musickatia [10]

Answer:

The diluted solution is 0.65 M

Explanation:

Dilution formula to solve the problem is:

M concentrated . V concentrated = M Diluted . V diluted

We can also make a rule of three though.

In 1000 mL of concentrated solution, we have 13.1 moles of  HNO₃

So in 25 mL we have (25 . 13.1 ) / 1000 = 0.327 moles of HNO₃

This moles are also in 0.500 L of diluted solution, the new molarity will be:

0.327 mol / 0.5L = 0.65 M

Molarity of diluted solution must be always lower than concentrated solution, otherwise the excersise is wrong.

If we replace in the formula

13.1 M . 25 mL = 500 mL . M diluted

M diluted = 13.1 m . 25 mL / 500 mL = 0.65 M
