Zane and his favorite geometry student, , have just set sail for a day of fun on lake Erie. A spring squall quickly forms and ca

tches you off guard, leaving you adrift on the lake. Zane suddenly discovers he has an irrational fear of water and is reduced to hugging the mast. You hear Sherman barking from the top of a lighthouse to help guide you to shore. In order to save Zane and yourself, you must calculate how far away you are from this lighthouse. Using a range finder, you expertly measure the distance from the sailboat to the top of the lighthouse at 350 yards.
angle B is 40 degrees.

(a) Based on the above information, find the distance across the water from the sailboat to the island

where the lighthouse is standing. You can only use trigonometry to solve. You must show all work for

credit. Round your answer to the nearest whole number if needed.

(b)Calculate the height of the lighthouse. You can only use trigonometry or Pythagorean Theorem to

solve.

Water is the Adjacent of this right triangle. 350 yards is the length of the Hypotenuse. We have given angle B, 40 degrees.

_________________________________________________________

According to SOH CAH TOA, we use CAH (cosineΘ = adjacent/hypotenuse).

  • Θ = 40
  • hyoptenuse = 350
  • adjacent = x

cosine40 = x/350

[multiply both sides by 350]

350 · cosine40 = x

[put calculator in degree mode]

x ≈ 268 yards

So, the distance across the water from sailboat to the island is 268 yards.

_________________________________________________________

Let's use pythagorean theorem since we already know the adjacent and hypotenuse to find the opposite <em>(opposite is also known as height</em>).

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

  • a = ? (opposite or height)
  • b = 268 (adjacent)
  • c = 350 (hypotenuse)

a^2 + (268)^2 = (350)^2

a^2 + 71824 = 122500

a^2 = 122500 - 71824

a^2 = 50676

[square both sides]

\sqrt{a^2} = \sqrt{50676}

a = \sqrt{50676}

a ≈ 225

So, the height, opposite, of the lighthouse is 225 yards.

The average grain of salt is 0.0003 meters wide. Rhinovirus, which causes the common cold, is 0.00000003 meters wide. How many t
algol [13]

Answer:

1\times 10^4\ times

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Width of average grain of salt is, w=0.0003\ m

Width of Rhinovirus is, W=0.00000003\ m

Now, expressing each width in scientific notation form, we get:

w=0.0003\ m = 3\times 10^{-4}\ m\\\\W=0.00000003\ m = 3\times 10^{-8}\ m

Now, in order to get how many times 'W' is wider than 'w', we divide the two widths. This gives,

\frac{W}{w}=\frac{3\times 10^{-4}\ m}{3\times 10^{-8}\ m}\\\\\frac{W}{w}=1\times 10^{-4-(-8)}=1\times 10^{-4+8}=1\times 10^4\\\\\therefore W=1\times 10^4\times w

Therefore, the grain of salt is 1\times 10^4\ times wider than Rhinovirus.

WEEKLY Earning Full time = 40 h x $15 = $600/week
Over time = 3 h 25 min or 3h + 25/60 h
WEEKLY Earning Over time = (3 h)x $30 + (25/60) x $30 = $115

TOTAL WEEKLY INCLUDING OVERTIME: = $715
TOTAL SEMI MONTHLY INCLUDING OVERTIME =$715 X2 = $1,430
BIWEEKLY = SEMI MONTHLY = $1,430
TOTAL MONTHLY INCLUDING OVERTIME =$715 x 4 = $2,860

Abner wants to create a shopping budget where he spends less than $80 per month on clothes. He also wants to spend at least thre
strojnjashka [21]

Answer:

D) Abner can spend $60 per month on school clothes and $20 per month on gym clothes and stay within his budget.

Step-by-step explanation:

In the problem it states that Abner will spend 3 times more on (s)school clothes than (g) gym clothes.

So it would appear as s ≥ 3g.

If we plug in $60 as s (school clothes) and $20 as g (gym clothes), the statement is true.

60 ≥ 3(20)

60 ≥ 60. These numbers make the linear system true.

If you have trouble with this, an easy way to find this answer is simply creating the linear system that represents the problem, (he will buy 3 times more school clothes than gym clothes) s ≥  3g and plug in each variable from the answer choices until you find the variables that make the linear system true.
