Consider the system of components connected as in the accompanying picture. Components 1 and 2 are connected in parallel, so tha

t sub-system works if and only if either 1 or 2 works; since 3 and 4 are connected in series, that sub-system works if and only if both 3 and 4 work. If components work independently of one another and P(component works) = 0.80, calculate P(system works).

Answer:

P(system works) = 0.6144

Step-by-step explanation:

Each compoent has an 80% = 0.8 probability of working correctly.

1 and 2

We need at least one of them working.

Either neither works, or at least one works.

Each one has a 1 - 0.8 = 0.2 probability of not working.

0.2*0.2 = 0.04

0.04 of neither working.

1 - 0.04 = 0.96 probability of at least one working

3 and 4

We need both to work, each with a 0.8 probability.

Calculate P(system works).

At least one of the first two, with 0.96 probability

3 and 4, each with 0.8 probability.

0.96*0.8*0.8 = 0.6144

So

P(system works) = 0.6144

A random telephone survey of 1,091 adults (aged 18 and older) was conducted by an online tax preparation and e-filing service. T
vovikov84 [41]

Answer:

a. The percentage of all taxpayers who file electronically is 58%

b. 654 people used an accountant or professional tax preparer preparing the tax return

Step-by-step explanation:

According to the given data, in order to estimate the percentage of all taxpayers who file electronically, we would have to make the following calculation:

percentage of all taxpayers who file electronically=634×100%=0.58

                                                                                    1,091

Hence, the percentage of all taxpayers who file electronically is 58%

In order to calculate how many people used an accountant or professional tax preparer for preparing the tax return, we would have to make the following calculation:

people used an accountant or professional tax preparer= 60%×1,091=654

                                                                                                 100%

654 people used an accountant or professional tax preparer preparing the tax return.

I’ve been stuck on this for a while!!!!!
maxonik [38]

Answer:

See explanation.

Step-by-step explanation:

Part A.

If two curves intersect, they have the same x- and y-coordinates.

So if we set the y-coordinates equal to each other, we are finding for what x-coordinate those y-coordinates will be the same. Therefore solving 2^(-x)=8^(x+4) gives us an x- so that both sides are the same (where both sides represent the corresponding y- coordinate for that x- in the curves given by y=2^(-x) and y=8^(x+4).

Part B.

x | 2^(-x) | 8^(x+4)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

-3 2^(-(-3))=2^3=8 8^(-3+4)=8^1=8

-2 2^(-(-2))=2^2=4 8^(-2+4)=8^2=64

-1 2^(-(-1))=2^1=2 8^(-1+4)=8^3=512

0 2^(-(0))=2^0=1 8^(0+4)=8^4=4096

1 2^(-(1))=2^(-1)=1/2 8^(1+4)=8^5=32768

2 2^(-(2))=2^(-2)=1/4 8^(2+4)=8^6=262144

3 2^(-(3))=2^(-3)=1/8 8^(3+4)+8^7=2097152

So in the table we see both lists have the same y-coordinate when the x-coordinate is -3.

The solution to equation 2^(-x)=8^(x+4) is therefore x=-3 since the table tells us both sides is the same value, 8, for this x-coordinate.

Part C.

You can graph both curves given by y=2^(-x) and y=8^(x+4) on the same coordinate plane. Where they intersect is the solution.

I use the table in part B to help guide me in plotting the points to help graph the curves for each equation. I have included a visual in an attachment.

They cross at (-3,8) so this is the solution.

So this tells me 2^(-x)=8^(x+4) has solution at x=-3 since both sides will be 8 at that x-.
