A hot air balloon of total mass M (including passengers and luggage) is moving with a downward acceleration of magnitude a. As i
frez [133]

Answer:

When balloon moves in the downward direction two forces acts on it.

    i) Force exerted by air in the upward direction

    ii) Weight

According to newton’s second law of motion:

      Sum of forces = Ma

                W – F = Ma

               Mg – F = Ma     …….. (i)

when some of the mass m is dropped and balloon is moving in upward direction with acceleration a/2 then,

               F – W = (M-m)a/2

               F – (M-m)g = (M-m)a/2

               F – Mg + mg = Ma/2 – ma/2 ….. (ii)

Adding equation (i) and (ii)

              mg = M(3a/2) – ma/2

              m(g + a/2) = M(3a/2)

              m = M(3a/2)/(g + a/2)

According to Newtons third law of motion when one object exerts a force on a second object what is true about the forces?
fomenos

Answer:

D.They are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction

Explanation:

  • Newton's third law states that the action force is always associated with a reaction force.
  • When a body 'A' exerts a force on body 'B', it is called the force of action.
  • When the body 'B' in turn resist the force of 'A' is called the reaction force. It is the reactive force acted upon by the body 'B' on 'A'.
  • This reaction force is equal in magnitude of the action force.
  • If the two bodies remain in the same horizontal line, the 'A' exerts a force in the direction towards 'B' and the body 'B' exerts a reaction force in the direction towards 'A'.
  • Hence, the two forces that are exerted by the bodies are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction.

According to Newton's Brd Law, an object's momentum depends on it's velocity and mass, 4 dog-sled teams
Kryger [21]

Answer:

Team A has the greatest momentum

Explanation:

The momentum of an object is a vector quantity given by

p=mv

where

m is the mass of the object

v is its velocity

In this problem, we have to compare the momenta of the different sleds.

We have:

A) Sled Team A 48 kg moving at 10m/s:

m = 48 kg

v = 10 m/s

p = (48)(10) = 480 kg m/s

B) Sled Team B 14 kg moving at 18m/s

m = 14 kg

v = 18 m/s

p = (14)(18) = 252 kg m/s

C) Sled Team C 28 kg moving at 12m/s

m = 28 kg

v = 12 m/s

p = (28)(12) = 336 kg m/s

D) Sled Team D 22 kg moving at 12m/s

m = 22 kg

v = 12 m/s

p = (22)(12) = 264 kg m/s

So, team A has the greatest momentum.
