Answer: 10.  39.7 g CH_3OH

11. 650 g of HgO

Explanation:

To calculate the moles, we use the equation:

\text{Number of moles}=\frac{\text{Given mass}}{\text {Molar mass}}

a) moles of H_2

\text{Number of moles}=\frac{5.0g}{2.0g/mol}=2.5moles

CO(g)+2H_2(g)\rightarrow CH_3OH(l)

According to stoichiometry :

2 moles of H_2 produce = 1 mole of CH_3OH

Thus 2.5 moles of  H_2 produce=\frac{1}{2}\times 2.5=1.25moles  of CH_3OH

Mass of CH_3OH=moles\times {\text {Molar mass}}=1.25moles\times 32g/mol=39.7g

Thus 39.7 g of CH_3OH will be produced from 5.0 g of hydrogen.

11. 2HgO(s)\rightarrow 2Hg(l)+O_2(g)

According to stoichiometry :

1 mole of O_2 is produced by = 2 moles of HgO

Thus 1.50 moles of  O_2 are produced by =\frac{2}{1}\times 1.50=3moles  of HgO

Mass of HgO=moles\times {\text {Molar mass}}=3moles\times 216g/mol=650g

Thus 650 g of HgO woukd be decomposed to produce 1.5 mol of oxygen

What pressure in atmospheres(atm) is equal to 45.6 kPa?
RSB [31]
1 atm is equal to 101.3 kpa.
therefore, to find the atm for 45.6kpa, divide 45.6 by 101.3 (and then multiply by 1 but that doesnt matter in this case).
giving 0.45 atm

Calculate the quantity of energy produced per gram of U-235 (atomic mass = 235.043922 amu) for the neutron-induced fission of U-
Alexus [3.1K]

Answer:

To calculate the amount of energy produced per gram from Uranium- 235 we call on the formula:

delta(m)= mass of the products - mass of reactants

Given the atomic mass of Xe-144 = 143.9385 amu; atomic mass of Sr-90= 89.907738 amu;  atomic mass of  U-235= 235.043922 amu

Therefore:

delta(m)=  (143.9385 + 89.907738) - (235.043922)  = -1.197682 amu

Recall that to calculate energy in joules, we use the formula:

Energy = mc^2

Therefore: Energy = (-1.197582/6.022 x 10^26)kg x (3 x 10^8 m/s)^2

= -1.7898104 x 10^-10 J

= (-1.7898104 x 10^-10 x 6.022 x 10^23/235.043922)

= -4.586 x 10^11 J per gram of  energy released
