The process in which hydrogen is introduced to vegetable oils to make them saturated is known as
Kruka [31]

Hydrogenation of vegetable oils and animal fats is a standard industrial procedure. The more saturated a fat is, the longer its shelf-life. Why? Because a site of unsaturation, an olefinic bond, is potentially a reactive site that can be oxidized.

Of course, these days we are sold on the benefits of unsaturated fats. A priori, an unsaturated fat will yield less energy upon combustion, and the C=C double bond is harder to metabolize than C−H bonds.

A student says that a chemical reaction hasn't occurred unless the total number of atoms has changed is she correct or incorrect
amid [387]

Answer:

No. She is not correct.

Explanation:

A chemical reaction alters the distribution or arrangement of the atoms. However, there is no loss of atom because according to the Law of Conversion of Mass, Matter can neither be created nor destroyed.

For example, the makeup of water is two molecules of Hydrogen and One Molecule of Oxygen (that is H_{2}O). It can change states and still retain its composition (that is, the same number of atoms) however if it comes in contact with Sodium metal (Na), the atoms become re-arranged and new substances are formed. The two substances that are formed are:

 1. molecular Hydrogen (H2) and
 2. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH).

When this happens, we know that a chemical reaction has happened.

Cheers!

Types of over-the-counter medicines

In Australia, over-the-counter medicines can be supplied in three ways.

Pharmacist-only medicines

Some over-the-counter medicines can only be sold to you after you have spoken to the pharmacist. Examples include inhalers (puffers) to relieve asthma and mild steroid-containing creams for skin irritations.

Pharmacy medicines

Some over-the-counter medicines are available only at pharmacies but you do not need to speak to a pharmacist to buy them. Examples include medicines to treat diarrhoea and symptoms of allergy.

Medicines for general sale

You can buy some over-the-counter medicines in supermarkets and health food stores. Examples include cough and cold remedies, some painkillers such as paracetamol and aspirin, and vitamins.
