Explain the role of gravity in the waterfall.
Elis [28]

Explanation:

A water fall falls and hits the base with force depending on the distance from which it fell.This force is caused by gravity pulling the water molecule as well as some other particles like eroded soil rapidly downwards.

1) Sodium chloride undergoes an electrolysis reaction producing two new substances. One is a metal and the other is a gaseous el
Lena [83]

Metallic sodium and chlorine gas are produced by the electrolysis of molten sodium chloride.

What is a word equation?

A word equation represents a chemical reaction using the names of the substances involved.

a) Word equation:

Sodium chloride + electrolysis → Sodium hydroxide + Hydrogen gas, Chlorine gas

b) The following reactions take place during the electrolysis of brine solution :

NaCl =Na^+ +Cl^-

H_2O =H^+ +OH^-

Now there are two cations and two anions which get discharged in the following way :

At cathode : 2H^+ +2e^- = H_2

At anode: 2Cl^- - 2e-=Cl_2

The remaining ions

Na^+ +OH- = NaOH

That's why we get H_2, Cl_2 and NaOH.

c) Balance each equation is:

2NaCl (l) → 2Na(s) + Cl_2(g)

What is the estimated effective nuclear charge, Z eff, experienced by an electron in a 3p orbital of a chlorine atom?
mojhsa [17]
Effective nuclear charge is the charge felt by valence electrons of multi-electron atom taking into consideration the number of shielding electrons that surround the nucleus.
To calculate Z eff for electron we use this formula :
Z eff = Z - S where Z is the number of protons in nucleus and S is the average amount of electron density between the nucleus and electron in consideration
so Z eff = 17 - 10 (core electrons) = 7
So the correct answer is C

An aqueous solution is analyzed and found to contain potassium ions and sulfite ions. write the equation for the dissolution of
enot [183]
1) The dissolution of the salt potassium sulfite:
K₂SO₃(aq) → 2K⁺(aq) + SO₃²⁻(aq).
Potassium has +1 charge because it lost one electron to accomplish stabile electron configuration of noble gas argon.
2) From dissolution reaction: n(K⁺) : n(SO₃²⁻) = 2 : 1.
n(K⁺) = 0.700 mol.
0.700 mol : n(SO₃²⁻) = 2 : 1.
n(SO₃²⁻) = 0.700 mol ÷ 2.
n(SO₃²⁻) = 0.350 mol; amount of sulfite anions.
