Two cars pass each other traveling at the same speed. one car has a constant velocity of 15.0 m/s, east. the other car has a con

stant acceleration of 1.00 m/s , west. how much time will have elapsed until the cars are 164 m apart?

The formula for calculating the distance at constant velocity is:

d = v * t

d = 15 t

The formula for distance at constant acceleration is:

d = v0 t + 0.5 a t^2

d = 15 t + 0.5 t^2

So after a sum distance of 164 m:

15 t + (15 t + 0.5 t^2) = 164

30 t + 0.5 t^2 = 164

t^2 + 60 t = 328

(t + 30)^2 = 328 + 30^2

t + 30 = ± 35.04

t = -65.04, 5.04

Since time cannot be negative, so the two cars are 164 m apart after about 5 seconds

A student throws a water balloon with speed v0 from a height h = 1.82 m at an angle θ = 29° above the horizontal toward a target
3241004551 [841]

Answer:

v_o = 7.76 m/s

Explanation:

As we projected the balloon at speed vo at an angle of 29 degree

so the two component of velocity is given as

v_x = v_ocos29 = 0.875 v_o

v_y = v_o sin29 = 0.485 v_o

now we know that in x direction we have

d = v_x t

7.5 = 0.875 v_o t

v_o t = 8.57

in y direction we have

- 1.82 = (0.485 v_o) t - \frac{1}{2}gt^2

-1.82 = 0.485(8.57) - 4.9 t^2

t = 1.1 s

now we have

v_o = 7.76 m/s

An earthquake in the ocean floor can generate a tsunami wave. A tsunami originating near the Alaska coast had a wavelength of 47
Sloan [31]

Answer:

Explanation:

the speed of the tsunami will be

v = distance / time

v = s/t

v = 2300 / 5.3

v = 434 miles/hour

To convert this to m/s, we should note that, 1 mile = 1609 m, and thus

434 miles/hr = 434 * 1609/3600

434 miles/hr = 194 m/s

The frequency, f is given by the formula

f = velocity * wavelength

f = vλ

f = 194 * 470

f = 91180 Hz = 91 kHz

Period, T = 1/f

Period T = 1.096*10^-5 s or

Period T = 1.096*10^-5 / 60

Period, T = 1.828*10^-7 minute
