The kingdom of Protista consists of single-celled and multi-celled organisms that have a nucleus. Members of this kingdom are ca

lled “protists.” They include well-known one-celled creatures, such as the paramecium, amoeba and single-celled algae. Some of these creatures are very large, like kelp, which we usually think of as seaweed. Plants, fungi and animals probably evolved from protists millions of years ago, which is why it’s fitting that “protista” means “the very first.”
Which of these things is a protist?

a. Mycoplasma pneumoniae, a single-celled bacterium without a nucleus that causes pneumonia

b. Euglena spirogyra, a single-celled algae with a nucleus and flagella, or flippers, that help it move around

c. Geotrichum candidum, a complex, multicellular fungus used to make cheese.

d. Apodemus sylvaticus, a complex, multicellular creature known as a wood mouse.

A student drops an object out the window of the top floor of a high-rise dormitory.
seropon [69]

-- The acceleration due to gravity is 32.2 ft/sec² .  That  means that the
speed of a falling object increases by an additional 32.2 ft/sec every second.

-- If dropped from "rest" (zero initial speed), then after falling for 4 seconds,
the object's speed is (4.0) x (32.2) = <em>128.8 ft/sec</em>.

-- 128.8 ft/sec = <em>87.8 miles per hour</em>

Now we can switch over to the metric system, where the acceleration
due to gravity is typically rounded to 9.8 meters/sec² .

-- Distance = (1/2) x (acceleration) x (time)²

       D = (1/2) (9.8) x (4)² =<em>  78.4 meters</em>

-- At 32 floors per 100 meters,  78.4 meters = dropped from the <em>25th floor</em>.

The 5 points are certainly appreciated, but I do wish they were Celsius points.

A chair exerts a force of 20 N on a floor and is not moving. What force does
AysviL [449]

The floor exerts 20 N of force on the chair

Explanation:

We can answer this question by using Newton's third law, which states that:

<em>"When an object A exerts a force (called action) on an object B, object B exerts an equal and opposite force (called reaction) on object A"</em>

In this problem, we can identify:

- Object A as the chair

- Object B as the floor

This means that the force of 20 N exerted by the chair on the floor is the action, and so the force exerted by the floor on the chair is the reaction. Newton's third law states that these two forces are equal and opposite: therefore, the force exerted by the floor on the chair is also 20 N, but in the opposite direction.
