A building made with a steel structure is 565 m high on a winter day when the temperature is 0◦F. How much taller is the buildin
anyanavicka [17]

To solve this problem we apply the thermodynamic equations of linear expansion in bodies.

Mathematically the change in the length of a body is subject to the mathematical expression

\Delta L = L_0 \alpha \Delta T

Where,

L_0 = Initial Length

\alpha = Thermal expansion coefficient

\Delta T = Change in temperature

Since we have values in different units we proceed to transform the temperature to degrees Celsius so

0\°F \Rightarrow (0-32)*\frac{5}{9} = -17.77\°C

103\°F \Rightarrow (103-32)*(\frac{5}{9})= 39.44\°C

The coefficient of thermal expansion given is

\alpha = 1.1*10^{-5}/\°C

The initial length would be,

L_0 = 565m

Replacing we have to,

\Delta L = L_0 \alpha \Delta T

\Delta L = (565)(1.1*10^{-5})(39.44-(-17.77))

\Delta L = (565)(1.1*10^{-5})(39.44-(-17.77))

\Delta L = 0.355m

This means that the building will be 35.5cm taller

She uses a voltmeter, that measures in volts, and an ammeter that measures in amps. Both were correctly placed in her circuit. I
Nesterboy [21]

Answer:

A) the ammeter is x

B)

  • voltage across R₁ (left resistor) =  0.75 V
  • voltage across the right one  = 0.3 V

C) 1.05 V

Explanation:

From the diagram attached below;

A) Assuming the homes were wired in series, and one of the homes face short circuit then all the houses would face power cut but it doesn't happen. So they must be connected in parallel.

Therefore; The ammeter is  connected in series, Hence, the ammeter is x  and the voltmeter must be z.

B)

Given that:

x = 0.15 A

z = 0.3 V

Resistor (R) on the left = 5 ohms

Then, voltage across R₁ (left resistor) = 5×(x)

= 5×0.15

= 0.75 V

voltage across the right one = z = 0.3 V

C)

The total voltage of battery = 0.75+0.3 = 1.05 V

Identify two fields where physical quantities are used in motion calculations
larisa86 [58]

The two fields were physical quantities are used in motion calculations are length and mass with time.

The physical quantity in a field is referred as every point in a particular space time.

<h3>How physical quantities are used in motion calculations?</h3>

 If we consider an object, the physical property of the object is considered as physical quantity and to measure that object is known as units. The Physical quantity can be classified as elemental physical quantity and derived physical quantity. Length, mass, time, etc.. are elemental physical quantity, momentum, density, acceleration, etc... are derived physical quantity. Only for charge and temperature the physical quantity will be less than zero.

Length, mass and time  are the physical quantities used in motion calculations.
