A nuclear physicist studies the particles ejected by a beam of radioactive nuclei. According to a proposed theory, the average r

ates at which particles are ejected in the forward and backward directions should be equal. To test this theory, he counts the total number ejected forward and backward in a certain 10-hour inter- val and finds 998 forward and 1,037 backward. (a) What are the uncertainties asso- ciated with these numbers

A 2.0 kg mass weighs 10 Newtons on planet X. what is the acceleration due to gravity on planet X? Show the work.
KengaRu [80]

Answer: The gravitational acceleration on planet X is 5 N/kg

On Earth (with the gravitational accelartion g_E) the mass of 2kg will correspond to

F_E = m\cdot g_E = 2.0 \mbox{kg}\cdot 9.8 \frac{N}{kg} = 19.6 N

On planet X we are told the same measure is only 10N. Since there is a proportional relationship between g and F, we can calculate g_X:

\frac{F_E}{g_E}=\frac{F_X}{g_X} \implies\\g_x = \frac{g_E\cdot F_X}{F_E}=\frac{9.8 N/kg \cdot 10 N }{19.6N}=5 \frac{N}{kg}

One form of energy can be _____ another type of energy.
kotegsom [21]

We can answer this one very quickly.  From the <em>Law of Conservation of Energy</em>, we know that "Energy can't be created or destroyed.".

So that only leaves us one way to complete the sentence in this question:

"One form of energy can be <em>transformed into</em> another type of energy. "  <em>(B)</em>

Enter the following expression in the answer box below: 2gλ3m−−−−√, where λ is the lowercase Greek letter lambda.
atroni [7]

Answer:

  \sqrt{\dfrac{2g\lambda^3}{m}}

Explanation:

We can write the expression here, but the point of the problem seems to be to see if you can manipulate the controls on the answer box to reproduce that expression.

  \boxed{\sqrt{\dfrac{2g\lambda^3}{m}}}
