Answer:

Reaction of lithium with water

Explanation:

The resulting solution is basic because of the dissolved hydroxide. The reaction is exothermic, but the reaction is slower than that of sodium (immediately below lithium in the periodic table).

What mass in grams of MgSO4 is required to make 59.3 mL of 2.68 M<br> solution?
love history [14]

Answer:

Approximately 19.1\; \rm g.

Explanation:

<h3>Number of moles of formula units of magnesium sulfate required to make the solution</h3>

The unit of concentration in this question is "\rm M". That's equivalent to "\rm mol \cdot L^{-1}" (moles per liter.) In other words:

c(\mathrm{MgSO_4}) = 2.68\; \rm M = 2.68\; \rm mol \cdot L^{-1}.

However, the unit of the volume of this solution is in milliliters. Convert that unit to liters:

\displaystyle V = 59.3\; \rm mL = 59.3 \; \rm mL \times \frac{1\; \rm L}{1000\; \rm mL} = 0.0593\; \rm L.

Calculate the number of moles of \rm MgSO_4 formula units required to make this solution:

\begin{aligned}n(\rm MgSO_4) &= c \cdot V \\ &= 2.68 \; \rm mol \cdot L^{-1} \times 0.0593\; \rm L \approx 0.159\; \rm mol \end{aligned}.

<h3>Mass of magnesium sulfate in the solution</h3>

Look up the relative atomic mass data of \rm Mg, \rm S, and \rm O on a modern periodic table:

  • \rm Mg: 24.305.
  • \rm S: \rm 32.06.
  • \rm O: 15.999.

Calculate the formula mass of \rm MgSO_4 using these values:

M(\mathrm{MgSO_4}) = 24.305 + 32.06 + 4 \times 15.999 \approx 120.361\; \rm g \cdot mol^{-1}.

Using this formula mass, calculate the mass of that (approximately) 0.159\; \rm mol of \rm MgSO_4 formula units:

\begin{aligned}m(\mathrm{MgSO_4}) &= n \cdot M \\&\approx 0.159 \; \rm mol \times 120.361 \; \rm g \cdot mol^{-1} \approx 19.1\; \rm g\end{aligned}.

Therefore, the mass of \rm MgSO_4 required to make this solution would be approximately 19.1\; \rm g.

How many grams are there in 0.250 moles of sodium hydroxide
Lady_Fox [76]
The answer is 10 grams.
The atomic weights for each elements are :
<span>Na - 22.99 g/mol </span>
<span>O -  16.00 g/mol </span>
<span>H -    1.01 g/mol
The sum = 40 g/mol for NAOH
</span><span>0.250 moles * 40.00 g / 1 mole = 10 g NaOH</span>

In a titration, 25.9 mL of 3.4 x10^-3 M Ba(OH)2 neutralized 16.6 mL of HCL solution. What is the molarity of the HCL solution?
san4es73 [151]
First, We have to write the equation for neutralization:
Ba(OH)2 + 2HCl → BaCl2 + 2H2O
so, from the equation of neutralization, we can get the ratio between Ba(OH)2 and HCl. Ba(OH)2 : HCl = 1:2
- We have to get the no.of moles of Ba(OH)2 to do the neutralization as we have 25.9ml of 3.4 x 10^-3 M Ba(OH)2.
So no.of moles of Ba(OH)2 = (25.9ml/1000) * 3.4x10^-3 = 8.8 x 10^-5 mol
and when Ba(OH)2 : HCl = 1: 2
So the no.of moles of HCl = 2 * ( 8.8x10^-5) =  1.76 x 10^-4 mol

So when we have 1.76X10^-4 Mol in 16.6 ml (and we need to get it per liter)
∴ the molarity = no.of moles / mass weight
                        = (1.76 x 10^-4 / 16.6ml)* (1000ml/L) = 0.0106 M Hcl

Y = 57.15 − 0.5 X If Y equals 5 , what is X ?<br><br> Then is Y=3, what is X?
Fiesta28 [93]

When y equals 5, x is 104.3

When y equals 3 then x is 108.3

<em><u>Solution:</u></em>

<em><u>Given expression is:</u></em>

y = 57.15 - 0.5x

<h3><u>If y equals 5 what is x ?</u></h3>

Substitute y = 5 in given expression

5 = 57.15 - 0.5(x)

5 = 57.15 - 0.5x

0.5x = 57.15 - 5

0.5x = 52.15

Divide both sides by 0.5

x = 104.3

Thus when y equals 5, x is 104.3

<h3><u>If y = 3 what is x ?</u></h3>

Substitute y = 3 in given expression

3 = 57.15 - 0.5(x)

3 = 57.15 - 0.5x

0.5x = 57.15 - 3

0.5x = 54.15

Divide both sides by 0.5

x = 108.3

Thus when y equals 3 then x is 108.3

2.5 moles of sodium chloride is dissolved<br> to make 0.050 liters of solution.
ivanzaharov [21]

The answer is:

the molarity = 50 moles/liters

The explanation:

when the molarity is = the number of moles / volume per liters.

and when the number of moles =2.5 moles

and the volume per liters = 0.05 L

so by substitution:

the molarity = 2.5moles/0.05L

                    = 50 moles /L
