Answer:

P = d g h      pressure due to density of liquid of height h

d1 g h1 = d2 g h2       since P1 equals P2

d1 h1 = d2 h2      and the density of Hg is 13.6 times that of water

h2 = (d1 / d2) * h1 = 13.6 * 70 cm =  952 cm or 9.52 m

How many 176 ohm resistors are connected in series to get a current of 5 a on 220 v battey
Phantasy [73]
Total resistance = voltage / current = 220 / 5 = 44 ohms .

Even one 176-ohm resistor is too much.  The current through it is 1.25 A,
and more than one of them in series reduces the current even further.

Connecting them in <em><u>parallel</u></em>, however . . .

Four resistors of 176-ohms each, in <u>parallel</u>, have a net effective resistance
of 176/4 = 44 ohms ... exactly what you need to do the job.

Two clay balls collide head-on in a perfectly inelastic collision. The first ball has a mass of 0.500 kg and an initial velocity
mrs_skeptik [129]

Answer:

v'=1.667\ m.s^{-1}  in the direction of the first body

Explanation:

Given:

  • mass of the first ball, m_1=0.5\ kg
  • velocity of the first ball, v_1=4\ m.s^{-1}
  • mass of the second ball, m_2=0.25\ kg
  • velocity of the second ball, v_2=3\ m.s^{-1}

<u>Now for the head-on inelastic collision:</u>

m_1.v_1-m_2.v_2=(m_1+m_2)v'

(since the bodies combine after an inelastic collision.)

0.5\times 4-0.25\times 3=(0.5+0.25)\times v'

v'=1.667\ m.s^{-1} in the direction of the first body. (Since the net result is positive as assumed in the equation for the first body)
