If a solution containing 126.27 g of mercury(ii) nitrate is allowed to react completely with a solution containing 17.796 g of s
Sphinxa [80]

The number of solid precipitate that will be formed is  37.08 g

calculation

write the equation for reaction

=Hg(NO3)2 +Na2SO4 = HgSO4(s) +2NaNO3(aq)

find the moles of each reactant

moles ofHg(NO3)2=126.27/324.6= 0.389 moles

moles of Na2SO4=17.796/142=0.125 moles

NaSO4 is the limiting reagent and by use of mole ratio of NaSO4:HgSO4 which is 1:1 therefore the moles of H2SO4 is also= 0.125 moles

mass HgSO4=moles x molar mass

=0.125 x296.65= 37.08g

Explain why you hear a “whoosh” sound when you open a can containing a carbonated drink. Which gas law applies?
marishachu [46]

The carbon dioxide in the headspace above the liquid is at higher pressure than atmospheric pressure outside the can.

The gas is at a lower volume initially but suddenly has a larger volume available when the can is opened.

The change in pressure as the gas rapidly moves to become dispersed through its new volume causes the "whoosh" sound.

The gas law that applies is Boyle's law.

If 40.0 grams of magnesium is reacted with an excess of nitric acid. 3.3 g of hydrogen gas will be produced.

<h3>What is Stoichiometry ?</h3>

Stoichiometry helps us use the balanced chemical equation to measure quantitative relationships and it is to calculate the amounts of products and reactants that are given in a reaction.

<h3>What is Balanced Chemical Equation ?</h3>

The balanced chemical equation is the equation in which the number of atoms on the reactant side is equal to the number of atoms on the product side in an equation.

Now we have to write the balanced equation

Mg + 2HNO₃  → Mg(NO₃)₂ + H₂

According to Stoichiometry

40.9\ \text{g Mg} \times \frac{1\ \text{mol Mg}}{24.31\ \text{g Mg}} \times \frac{1\ \text{mol}\ H_2}{1\ \text{mol Mg}} \times \frac{2.02\ g\ H_2}{1\ \text{mol}\ H_2}

= 3.3 g H₂

Thus from the above conclusion we can say that If 40.0 grams of magnesium is reacted with an excess of nitric acid. 3.3 g of hydrogen gas will be produced.
