Okay so my teacher gave me this question "5=-3+y" can someone help me under stand it??

inverse property. -3 + 3 = 0 so we add 3 to both sides to cancel out the -3 to ISOLATE the y.

5 = -3 + y

-3 + 3

-3 + 3 = 0

5+3 = 8

8 = y.
