Answer:

5=-3+y

inverse property. -3 + 3 = 0 so we add 3 to both sides to cancel out the -3 to ISOLATE the y.

5 = -3 + y

-3 + 3

-3 + 3 = 0

5+3 = 8

8 = y.

y = 8 basically.  I hope that helped.

You would want to eventually end up with y=…. or ….=y

With an equation, what you do to one side you must do to the other.
Meaning you’d add 3 to both sides.
So you’d have 8=y

There is a seven 1/2% sales tax added to the party bill. Mrs. Gutierrez also wants to add an 18% tip for the servers. This will
Allushta [10]
1.255 times the party bill. x = party bill s = sales tax t = tip C = total cost = the bill, plus the sales tax, and the tip C = x + s + t We know that both the sales tax and the tip are percentages based on the party bill. The sales tax is equal to 7.5% of the party bill. The tip is equal to 18% of the party bill. so, s = (0.075)*x and, t = (0.18)*x Then we replace the s and the t in our equation, C = x + 0.075x + 0.18x Then, we add the elements together. C = (1+0.075+0.18)x C = 1.255x

Solve the simultaneous equation
2x - 5y = 9
3x + 4y = 2
lianna [129]

Answer:

x = 2, y = -1.

Step-by-step explanation:

2x - 5y = 9

3x + 4y = 2

Multiply first equation by -3 and the second by 2:

-6x + 15y = -27

6x + 8y = 4            Adding the 2 equations:

23y = -23

y = -1.

Now substitute this value for y in the first equation:

2x - 5(-1) = 9

2x = 9 +5(-1)

2x = 9 - 5

2x = 4

x = 2.
