The rigid beam is supported by the three suspender bars. bars ab and ef are made of aluminum and bar cd is made of steel. if eac

h bar has a cross-sectional area of 450 mm2, determine the maximum value of p if the allowable stress is (σallow)st = 200 mpa for the steel and ( σallow)al = 150 mpa for the aluminum. est = 200 gpa and eal = 70 gpa.

Answer:

Pmax = 67.5 KN

Explanation:

We need to calculate the maximum allowable value of P for both aluminum and steel bars.

FOR STEEL BARS:

Since,

(σallow)st = (Pmax)st/A

where,

(σallow)st = maximum allowable stress of steel bar = 200 MPa = 2 x 10⁸ Pa

A = Cross-sectional area of steel bar = 450 mm² = 0.45 x 10⁻³ m²

(Pmax)st = Maximum allowable force for steel bar = ?

Therefore,

2 x 10⁸ Pa = (Pmax)st/0.45 x 10⁻³ m²

(Pmax)st = (2 x 10⁸ Pa)(0.45 x 10⁻³ m²)

(Pmax)st = 9 x 10⁴ N = 90 KN

FOR Aluminum BARS:

Since,

(σallow)al = (Pmax)al/A

where,

(σallow)al = maximum allowable stress of Al bar = 150 MPa = 1.5 x 10⁸ Pa

A = Cross-sectional area of Aluminum bar = 450 mm² = 0.45 x 10⁻³ m²

(Pmax)al = Maximum allowable force for Aluminum bar = ?

Therefore,

1.5 x 10⁸ Pa = (Pmax)al/0.45 x 10⁻³ m²

(Pmax)al = (1.5 x 10⁸ Pa)(0.45 x 10⁻³ m²)

(Pmax)al = 6.75 x 10⁴ N = 67.5 KN

Since,

(Pmax)al < (Pmax)st

Therefore,

The maximum allowable force will be:

Pmax = (Pmax)al

Pmax = 67.5 KN

The block in the diagram below is AT REST. However, the tension in the cable is not the only thing holding the block back. Stati
Vedmedyk [2.9K]

Answer:

The tension in the rope is 229.37 N.

Explanation:

Given:

Mass of the block is, m=33.2\ kg

Coefficient of static friction is, \mu = 0.214

Angle of inclination is, \theta = 31.5°

Draw a free body diagram of the block.

From the free body diagram, consider the forces in the vertical direction perpendicular to inclined plane.

Forces acting are mg\cos \theta and normal N. Now, there is no motion in the direction perpendicular to the inclined plane. So,

N=mg\cos \theta\\N=(33.2)(9.8)\cos (31.5)\\N=277.415\ N

Consider the direction along the inclined plane.

The forces acting along the plane are mg\sin \theta and frictional force, f, down the plane and tension, T, up the plane.

Now, as the block is at rest, so net force along the plane is also zero.

T=mg\sin \theta+f\\T=mg\sin \theta +\mu N\\T= (33.2)(9.8)(\sin (31.5)+(0.214\times 277.415)\\T= 170+59.37\\T=229.37\ N

Therefore, the tension in the rope is 229.37 N.

Please help with this question
kompoz [17]
The answer is unbalanced because the numbers 100n and 300n don’t equal each other. If the answer was balanced the numbers would have to equal each other. Also, the answer net force would only be the answer if we were adding the numbers. I hope this helped you! :)

When you step inside a warm ski lodge on a cold day, you find your glasses fog. why does this occur?
marin [14]
Answer: Condensation of moisture in the air onto the glasses.

Explanation:
When you come from a cold environment into a warm ski lodge, the glasses are at a much lower temperature than that of the lodge.
Because the air in the room contains moisture (water vapor), it condenses on a surface whose temperature is lower than the dew point of the room.

In California, changing lanes in the middle of an intersection D. is legal.

Although it is legal, it's not necessarily the safest thing to do in an intersection.
