An eagle can fly at a speed of 50 mph and a starling can fly at 78 mph. How far will the starling fly in the time it takes the e
disa [49]
Well, we know the eagle does 50 miles in 1hr, how long will it be for 125 miles?

well    \bf \begin{array}{ccllll}
miles&hours\\
\textendash\textendash\textendash\textendash\textendash\textendash&\textendash\textendash\textendash\textendash\textendash\textendash\\
50&1\\
125&x
\end{array}\implies \cfrac{50}{125}=\cfrac{1}{x}\implies x=\cfrac{125\cdot 1}{50}
\\\\\\
x=\cfrac{5}{2}

so, the eagle for 125miles does them in 5/2 hours or 2hrs and a half

now, how far will the sterling go in 2hrs and a half?

well, we know the sterling does 75 miles in 1hr

thus   \bf \begin{array}{ccllll}
miles&hours\\
\textendash\textendash\textendash\textendash\textendash\textendash&\textendash\textendash\textendash\textendash\textendash\textendash\\
75&1\\
x&\frac{5}{2}
\end{array}\implies \cfrac{75}{x}=\cfrac{1}{\frac{5}{2}}\implies \cfrac{75}{x}=\cfrac{2}{5}

solve for "x"
