Huck Finn walks at a speed of 0.70 m/s across his raft (that is, he walks perpendicular to the raft’s motion relative to the sho

re). The raft is traveling down the Mississippi River at a speed of 1.50 m/s relative to the river bank (Fig. 3–42). What is Huck’s velocity (speed and direction) relative to the river bank?

Answer

given,

Hunk Finn speed,v_y= 0.7 m/s

Speed of river,v_x = 1.50 m/s

Assuming the speed of the river is in x-direction.

Speed of Hunk Finn to be in y-direction.

Hunk velocity relative to river =

x = \sqrt{v_y^2+v_x^2}

x = \sqrt{2.74}

x =1.66\ m/s

Speed of Hunk relative to river = 1.66 m/s

direction of the boat

\theta =tan^{-1}(\dfrac{v_y}{v_x})

\theta =tan^{-1}(\dfrac{0.7}{1.50})

\theta = 25.01^{\circ}

Hence, angle of the raft is 24.01°

Varvara68 [4.7K]
Speed is defined as the distance over time. So in measuring the speed of a car, the most manual thing that we can do besides using a speedometer is to measure a certain distance then measure the time at which the car passes that distance then divide the distance over the time. Then determine the speed limit.

What produces the distinctive flame color of different substances when they are ignited?
shepuryov [24]

Answer:

Electrons in different metals

Explanation:

When you heat an atom, some of its electrons are "excited* to higher energy levels. When an electron drops from one level to a lower energy level, it emits a quantum of energy.  The different mix of energy differences for each atom produces different colours. Each metal gives a characteristic flame emission spectrum.
