Answer:

Solids and liquids are both states of matter and have a definite volume. However, a solid has a definite shape and a liquid does not (can flow). In a liquid, the atoms are loosely bonded and far apart from each other (not as far as gases). Solids vibrate tightly together.

Answer:

Solids and liquids are similar because, they have mass, desity, and volume.

They are different because: Liquids shape is dependent on the container it is held in while Solids hold a shape and can be flexible

deff fn [24]

Answer:

mole fraction methanol = 0.76

mole fraction ethanol = 0.24

Explanation:

Raoult´s law gives us the partial vapor pressure of a component in solution as the product of the mole fraction of the component and the value of its pure pressure:

PA = X(A) x Pº(A)

where PA is the partial vapor pressure of component A, X(A) is the mole fraction of A, and Pº(A) its pure vapor pressure.

From reference literature the pure pressures of methanol, and ethanol are at 25 ºC :

PºCH₃OH = 16.96 kPa

PºC₂H₅OH = 7.87 kPa

Given that we already have the mole fractions, we can calculate the partial vapor pressures as follows:

PCH₃OH = 0.600 x 16.96 kPa = 10.18 kPa

PC₂H₅OH = 0.400 x 7.87 kPa = 3.15 kPa

Now the total pressure in the gas phase is:

Ptotal = PCH₃OH + PC₂H₅OH = 10.18 kPa + 3.15 kPa = 13.33 kPa

and the mole fractions in the vapor will be given by:

X CH₃OH = PCH₃OH / Ptotal = 10.18 kPa/ 13.33 kPa = 0.76

X C₂H₅OH = 1 - 0.76 = 0.24

How can you tell which compound in a solution is the solvent?

(own words please)
Free_Kalibri [48]

Answer:

The way you can know which compound in a solution is a solvent is by usually just determining which substance is a solute and which is a solvent. The solute is when it is dissolved and it takes on the characteristics of the solvent.

13. What is the charge of an aluminum ion that has 13 protons and 10 electrons?
Ksenya-84 [330]

Answer:

+ 3

Ex planation:

Al3+ indicates an ion of aluminum having a charge of + 3. I.e., since an aluminum atom normally has 13 protons and 13 electrons, this ion has 10 electrons (-10 charge) and 13 protons (+ 13 charge) giving it a charge of + 3 (-10 + 13 = +3).

hope this helps!

When an acid is dissolved in water, how does it change the solution's ph?
iren2701 [21]

When an acid is dissolved in water, by releasing protons into the solution, it lowers the pH.

What is pH?

The letters pH stand for the potential of hydrogen since pH is essentially a measurement of the number of hydrogen ions (i.e. protons) in a substance. The pH scale was created in 1923 by scientist Peter Lauritz Srensen. (1868-1969).

The pH of a solution is a key marker of its chemical makeup. The pH can have an impact on the biological processes that take place, the behavior of bacteria, and the behavior of chemicals.
