Answer:

They supported the laws because the white supremacists and the segregationist hated the idea of interbreeding. African Americans where thought to be "unintelligent" and "foolish", so the white supremacists and segregationist people of the times did not want these unwanted traits to be passed on to people of so called "precious" white blood.
