In a nuclear fission reaction, a freely moving neutron is introduced to a nuclear fuel, then a neutron is absorbed by an atom's nucleus.

What is nuclear fission?

Nuclear fission is a process in which an unstable nuclei will convert into stable nuclei after releasing the energy in the form of particles.

When we introduce a freely moving neutron to the nuclear fuel of uranium-235 nuclei then this introduced neutron was absorbed by the nuclei and makes the nuclei more unstable. Then this unstable nuclei will convert into two nuclei in the addition of three neutrons.

Hence, a neutron is absorbed by an atom's nucleus.

By what factor does the rate change in each of the following cases (assuming constant temperature)? (a) A reaction is first orde
Papessa [141]

Answer:

a) 2

b) 1/4

c) 9

Explanation:

a) for a first order reaction in reactant A

r initial = k*[A initial]

then if the concentration is doubled [A final ]= 2*[A initial] , then

r final = k*[A final ] = 2* k*[A initial] = 2*r initial

then the velocity changes by a factor of 2

b) for a second order reaction in reactant B

r initial = k*[B initial]²

then if the concentration is halved: [B final ]= [B initial]/2 , then

r final = k*[B final ]² = k*( [B initial]/2 )² =k* [B initial]² /4 = r initial /4

then the velocity changes by a factor of 1/4

c) for a second order reaction in reactant C

r initial = k*[C initial]²

then if the concentration is tripled : [C final ]= 3* [C initial] , then

r final = k*[C final ]² = k*( 3*[C initial] )² =k* [C initial]² *9 = 9 * r initial

then the velocity changes by a factor of 9

Zinc is more active than cobalt and iron but less active than aluminum. Cobalt is more active than nickel but less active than i
mixas84 [53]

Answer:

Option D

Explanation:

For the first statement, the order is:

=> Co < Fe < Zn < Al

For the second statement it is,

=> Ni < Co < Fe

So, combining the order becomes:

=> Ni < Co < Fe < Zn < Al

0.509g sample pure platinumetal was reacted with HCl to firm O.889g of platinum and chlorine. what is the percent by mass of pla
stepan [7]
Platinum plus chlorine equals 0.889 grams whereas the platinum alone is 0.509grams so 0.509/0.889grams = 57% of the mass of the platinum plus chlorine. The chlorine would be 0.889-0.509=0.38 grams. The chlorine would make up about 42.7% of the total mass in grams.

A major component of gasoline is octane (C8H18). When octane is burned in air, it chemically reacts with oxygen gas (O2) to prod
Olin [163]

Answer:

The answer is 6.25g.

Explanation:

First create your balanced equation. This will give you the stoich ratios needed to answer the question:

2C8H18 + 25O2 → 16CO2 + 18H2O

Remember, we need to work in terms of NUMBERS, but the question gives us MASS. Therefore the next step is to convert the mass of O2 into moles of O2 by dividing by the molar mass:

7.72 g / 16 g/mol = 0.482 mol

Now we can use the stoich ratio from the equation to determine how many moles of H2O are produced:

x mol H2O / 0.482 mol O2 = 18 H2O / 25 O2

x = 0.347 mol H2O

The question wants the mass of water, so convert moles back into mass by multiplying by the molar mass of water:

0.347 mol x 18 g/mol = 6.25g
