When comparing voltaic and electrolytic cells oxidation occurs at both the anode and the cathode.

What is an electrolytic cell?

In an electrolytic cell, the reaction is non-spontaneous so it requires some input of energy for it to function while for a voltaic cell, the reaction is spontaneous.

Oxidation occurs at the anode and reduction occurs at the cathode.

Thus, when comparing voltaic and electrolytic cells oxidation occurs at both the anode and the cathode.

In the reaction between a crushed antacid tablet and vinegar what gas is emitted
Pachacha [2.7K]

The answer is: emitted gas is carbon dioxide (CO₂).

Neutralization is is reaction in which an acid (in this example vinegar or acetic acid CH₃COOH) and a base (in this example soda)

Balanced chemical reaction of vinegar and antacid:

CH₃COOH(aq) + NaHCO₃(aq) → CH₃COONa(aq) + H₂O(l) + CO₂(g).

Sodium acetate (CH₃COONa) is a salt.

Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO₃) is an antacid. Sodium bicarbonate is the active ingredient in baking soda.

Look at the following reaction. How could you increase the production of 2NH3(g)? N2(g) + 3H2(g) 2NH3(g) Increase the volume of
Zolol [24]
The correct option is B. To increase the production of ammonia, you have to increase the pressure of the system. Increase in pressure will result in increased production of ammonia because this will drive the chemical reaction forward.

If an element has 2+ valence electrons, does it transfer only one or more than one valence electrons
just olya [345]

Answer:

element having 2+ valence electrons can transfer its more than one electron that is 2 electron completely.

Explanation:

  • Group IIA have 2+ valency and two electrons in its valance shell.
  • Its Electropositivity is high and have the tendency to donate it two electrons.
  • Element of IIA form ionic with most electronegative element.

Examples:

Cu²⁺, Mg²⁺, Sr²⁺ are examples having  2+ valance electron

one of the following is examples of element that have 2+ valence electrons

MgCl₂

Atomic number of Magnesium (Mg) is 12

Electronic Configuration of Mg:

1s², 2s², 2p⁶, 3s²

or

K =2

L = 8

M = 2

So, it have to give its 2 electrons to form a stable compound.

Similarly

Chlorine atomic number is 17

Electronic Configuration of Chlorine:

1s², 2s², 2p⁶, 3s², 3p⁵

or

K =2

L = 8

M = 7

So, it have to gain one electrons to form a stable compound and complete its octet.

So,

Two chlorine atom as a molecule gain 2 electrons from Mg²⁺ atom

So one Mg²⁺ and 2 Cl⁻ atoms form an ionic bond

where in this ionic bond Mg²⁺ transfer its 2 valence electron completely and chlorine molecule accept 2 electrons.

                 Cl-----Mg------Cl

So the Answer is

element having 2+ valence electrons can transfer its more than one electron that is 2 electron completely.

The image represents a(n)
Archy [21]

Answer:

B) atom of Xenon

Explanation:

Xenon is already stable alone, because it has a complete octet, or 8 electrons. This graph is not an ion because it shows xenon is its default state, consisting of 8 electrons.

It is not a molecule because a molecule is a group of atoms, or a compound, what is shown is a singular atom.
