A person is lifting a heavy box using a lever. What is the purpose of the lever in this situation?
ruslelena [56]

Answer:

to reduce the <em>force</em> needed to lift the box and <em>change</em> the direction of the force

Explanation:

1. "A lever consists of a rigid bar that is able to pivot at one point. This point of rotation is known as the fulcrum. A force is applied at some point away from the fulcrum (typically called the effort)."

By this definition, we know that force is needed to lift an object using a lever.

2.<u> "When the input and output forces are on opposite sides of the fulcrum, </u><u>the lever changes the direction of the applied force.</u> This occurs only with first-class levers. When both the input and output forces are on the same side of the fulcrum, the direction of the applied force does not change"

For example, on a sew saw, if a force is applied on one end, you on the other side/end would go up, meaning <u>a change in direction</u>.

3. Lastly, we know <u><em>a lever is typically used to reduce work</em></u>, in other words, the force needed to move something.

Basically, if we were to put a lever into an equation:

reduced force + change in direction = lever

(<em>the expection</em>) <u>unless load and force are on the same side</u>, there will be <u>no change in direction. </u>

For example, if you and your friend sit on the same side of a sew saw, the sew saw would not go up or down, meaning no change in direction.

So if not stated otherwise you can assume the load and force are on opposite sides. The purpose of a lever in that situation would be to reduce the force needed to lift the box and change the direction of the force.

*While reading my explanation, it may be helpful to look up a diagram containing a lever, with a load, fulcrum, and applied force.

The displacement of a wave traveling in the positive x-direction is y(x, t)|= (3.5 cm)cos(2.7x − 92t), where x is in m and t is
zubka84 [21]

Answer

Given,

y(x, t) = (3.5 cm) cos(2.7 x − 92 t)

comparing the given equation with general equation

y(x,t) = A cos(k x - ω t)

 A = 3.5 cm  , k = 2.7 rad/m    , ω = 92 rad/s

we know,

a) ω =2πf

   f = 92/ 2π

   f = 14.64 Hz

b) Wavelength of the wave

 we now, k = 2π/λ

      2π/λ = 2.7

      λ = 2 π/2.7

      λ = 2.33 m

c) Speed of wave

     v = ν λ

     v = 14.64 x 2.33

     v = 34.11 m/s

A motorcyclist heading east through a small town accelerate at constant 4.0meter per seconds square after he leaves the limits.
SVETLANKA909090 [29]

A) The position at t = 2.0 sec is 43.0 m east

B) The position is 55 m east

Explanation:

A)

In order to solve the problem, we take the east direction as positive direction.

We know that:

- at t = 0, the motorcyclist is at a position of x_0 = 5.0 m

- at t = 0, the initial velocity of the motorcyclist is v_0 = 15.0 m east

- The acceleration of the motorcyclist is constant and it is a=4.0 m/s^2

Since the motion is a uniformly accelerated motion, the position of the motorcylist is given by the expression

x(t)=x_0 + v_0t + \frac{1}{2}at^2

where t is the time.

Substituting t = 2.0 s, we find the position:

x(2.0)=(5.0)+(15)(2.0)+\frac{1}{2}(4.0)(2.0)^2=43 m

B)

The velocity of the motoryclist can be found by calculating the derivative of the position. Therefore, it is:

v(t)=x'(t)=v_0 + at

where:

v_0=15.0 m/s is the initial velocity

a=4.0 m/s^2 is the acceleration

We want to find the time t at which the velocity is

v = 25 m/s

Solving the equation for t,

t=\frac{v-v_0}{a}=\frac{25-15}{4}=2.5 s

And therefore, the position at t = 2.5 s is:

x(2.5s)=5.0+(15.0)(2.5)+\frac{1}{2}(4)(2.5)^2=55 m

What's the difference and similarity between O2 and 2 O ?
nasty-shy [4]
O2 refers to two oxygen atoms bonded together, while 2 O refers to two oxygen atoms that are not bonded to each other. They both have two oxygen atoms, but in O2, the oxygen atoms are bonded, while in 2O, the atoms are not.

A uniform magnetic field of magnitude 0.23 T is directed perpendicular to the plane of a rectangular loop having dimensions 7.8
Arlecino [84]

Answer:

0.0025116weber/m²

Explanation:

Magnetic field density (B) is the ratio of the magnetic flux (¶) through the loop to its cross sectional area (A).

Mathematically;

B = ¶/A

¶ = BA

Given B = 0.23Tesla which is the magnitude of the magnetic field

Dimension of the rectangular loop = 7.8 cm by 14 cm

Area of the rectangular loop perpendicular to the field B = 7.8cm×14cm

= 109.2cm²

Converting this value to m²

Area of the loop = 109.2 × 10^-4

Area of the loop = 0.01092m²

Magneto flux = 0.23×0.01092

Magnetic flux = 0.0025116weber/m²
