The Cabbage Indicator

Chemistry

.A solution that serves as a pH indicator may be made using red cabbage, which is frequently available in homes. In essence, the color of the cabbage depends on the acidity of the solution and a pigment molecule called flavin or anthocyanin.

To determine whether a material is an acid or a base, red cabbage indicator is a purple-colored solution

Vinegar is an acid and its pH value is less than 7 and hence

Red color is produced

Baking soda is base and its pH value is greater than 7 and between 8-9

and the color produced is sky blue

Bleach is the green which is also a basic and because the pH value is 10-11

Householder cleaner is having pH 11-13 which is basic and hence the yellow is the color of household cleaner .

A basic solution goes away from being basic and toward the center of the pH scale when an acid is introduced. The base is "neutralized" in this manner.

2 NH3 + 3 CuO --> 3 Cu + N2 + 3 H2O
Gnom [1K]

<u>Answer:</u> 0.5 moles of N_2 are produced in the reaction

<u>Explanation:</u>

The number of moles is defined as the ratio of the mass of a substance to its molar mass.

The equation used is:

\text{Number of moles}=\frac{\text{Given mass}}{\text{Molar mass}} ......(1)

Given mass of CuO = 113.6 g

Molar mass of CuO = 79.5 g/mol

Plugging values in equation 1:

\text{Moles of CuO}=\frac{113.6g}{79.5g/mol}=1.43 mol

For the given chemical reaction:

2NH_3+3CuO\rightarrow 3Cu+N_2+3H_2O

By the stoichiometry of the reaction:

If 3 moles of CuO produces 1 mole of N_2

So, 1.43 moles of CuO will produce = \frac{1}{3}\times 1.43=0.476=0.5mol of N_2

Hence, 0.5 moles of N_2 are produced in the reaction

The density of a 1 milliter sample of water is 1 gram. express this density in milligrams per liter
sergeinik [125]

The correct answer is 1000 Kg/M³

Density of water =1-g/cm3.

We know 1- g= 10^-³ Kg

cm³ =(10^-2)³= 10^-6

Substituting we get

Density of water

= 1 x (1x10^-³)/10^-6 Kg/M³

= 1x10^3 = 1000 Kg/M³

<h3>what is density?</h3>

Density is the mass of a material substance per unit volume. Density is defined as d = M/V, where d represents density, M is mass, and V is volume. Density is generally measured in grammes per cubic centimetre. Water, for example, has a density of 1 gramme per cubic centimetre, but Earth has a density of 5.51 grammes per cubic centimetre. Density is sometimes measured in kilos per cubic metre (in metre-kilogram-second or SI units). The density of air, for example, is 1.2 kilogrammes per cubic metre. Textbooks and handbooks list the densities of common solids, liquids, and gases.

Which one of the following is an oxidation-reduction reaction?
kupik [55]

Answer:

CH4 + 2 O2 --> CO2 + 2 H2O

Explanation:

CH4 + 2 O2 --> CO2 + 2 H2O is the only reaction where an element (oxygen) undergoes a change in oxidation state. In this reaction oxygen changes disproportionately to O⁻². That is ...

O₂ → CO₂ + 4e⁻ ==> oxidation

<u>O₂ + 4e⁻  →  H₂O ==> reduction </u>

2O₂ + 4e⁻  →  CO₂ + H₂O + 4e⁻  ==> Net oxidation-reduction

=>  4e⁻ gained by one mole O₂ in formation of CO₂ = 4e⁻ lost by the other mole O₂ in forming H₂O.

Then...

Including CH₄ (whose elements do not undergo changes in oxidation states) requires doubling reaction to balance by mass thus giving ...

2CH₄ + 2O₂ + 8e⁻  →  2CO₂ + 2H₂O + 8e⁻

Cancelling 8 reduction electrons on left with 8 oxidation electrons on right gives...

2CH₄ + 2O₂  →  2CO₂ + 2H₂O
