The charged species carrying the positive and the negative charges are called ions. The ionic compounds formed will be NaCl, Na₂SO₄, MgCl₂, and MgSO₄.

What are ionic compounds?

Ionic compounds are the substances formed by the interaction and the bond formation between the ions of the opposite charges. A cation of the ion loses an electron to the anion.

The crisscross method is used to determine the ionic compounds from the respective ions. In Na⁺ and Cl⁻, both have charge of one that got canceled to form NaCl.

In Na⁺ and SO₄²⁻, the charges of the ions are crossed to form Na₂SO₄. With ions Mg²⁺ and Cl⁻ the +2 charge of magnesium crosses with chloride ion to form, MgCl₂. Similarly, Mg²⁺ and SO₄²⁻ cross their charges to form MgSO₄.

Therefore, the ionic compounds formed are NaCl, Na₂SO₄, MgCl₂, and MgSO₄.

A 1.2-L container of liquid nitrogen is kept in a closet measuring 1.0m by 1.3m by 2.0m . Assume that the container is completel
MrRissso [65]

Answer:

26.99 % of air that will be displaced

Explanation:

Step 1: Data given

A 1.2-L container of liquid nitrogen is kept in a closet measuring 1.0m by 1.3m by 2.0m

Temperature = 23.5 °C

Atmospheric pressure = 1.2 atm

Liquid nitrogen has a density of 0.807 g/mL

Molar mass of N2 = 28 g/mol

Step 2: Calculate mass of nitrogen

Mass of nitrogen = density * volume

Mass of nitrogen = 0.807 g/mL * 1200 mL

Mass of nitrogen = 968.4 grams

Step 3: Calculate moles of N2

Moles N2 = mass N2 / molar mass N2

Moles N2 = 968.4 grams /28 g/mol

Moles N2 = 34.586 moles

Step 4: Calculate volume

p*V = n*R*T

⇒ p = the the pressure = 1.2 atm

⇒ V = the volume of N2 = TO BE DETERMINED

⇒ n = the number of moles = 34.586 moles

⇒ R = the gas constant = 0.08206 L*atm/K*mol

⇒ T = the temperature = 23.5 °C = 296.65

V = (n*R*T)/p

V = (34.586 * 0.08206 * 296.65)/1.2

V = 701.61 L

Step 5: Calculate the total volume of the chamber

1.0 m * 1.3 m * 2 m = 2.6 m³ = 2600 L

Step 6: Calculate the percent volume displaced

(701.61 L / 2600 L) * 100% = 26.99%

26.99 % of air that will be displaced

In what way would readings from a digital thermometer be preferable to those from a liquid-based thermometer?
skad [1K]
I think its because its more accurate because it shows you the numbers rather than you reading the approximate temperature on a liquid thermometer

A chemist dissolves of pure potassium hydroxide in enough water to make up of solution. Calculate the pH of the solution. (The t
Leya [2.2K]

Answer:

12.99

Explanation:

A chemist dissolves 716. mg of pure potassium hydroxide in enough water to make up 130. mL of solution. Calculate the pH of the solution. (The temperature of the solution is 25 °C.) Be sure your answer has the correct number of significant digits.

Step 1: Given data

 • Mass of KOH: 716. mg (0.716 g)
 • Volume of the solution: 130. mL (0.130 L)

Step 2: Calculate the moles corresponding to 0.716 g of KOH

The molar mass of KOH is 56.11 g/mol.

0.716 g × 1 mol/56.11 g = 0.0128 mol

Step 3: Calculate the molar concentration of KOH

[KOH] = 0.0128 mol/0.130 L = 0.0985 M

Step 4: Write the ionization reaction of KOH

KOH(aq) ⇒ K⁺(aq) + OH⁻(aq)

The molar ratio of KOH to OH⁻is 1:1. Then, [OH⁻] = 0.0985 M

Step 5: Calculate the pOH

We will use the following expression.

pOH = -log [OH⁻] = -log 0.0985 = 1.01

Step 6: Calculate the pH

We will use the following expression.

pH + pOH = 14

pH = 14 - pOH = 14 -1.01 = 12.99
