Aluminium has a work function of 4. 08 eV. The cutoff wavelength and cutoff frequency for the photoelectric effect is 303.9nm and 911.7× 10¹⁷ s⁻¹ respectively.

Work Function is the minimum energy required to eject an electron from a photoelectric material.

Cutoff Wavelength is the maximum wavelength below which electron will be ejected

Cutoff Frequency is the minimum frequency required to eject electron.

Let the work function of Aluminium be Φ

Given,  work function Φ = 4.08eV

We know that hc/λ =  Φ

where, h is Planck constant

c is speed of light

λ is wavelength of light used

Hence, on subsitution

1240 / λ = 4.08 eV          (hc = 1240)

⇒ λ = 303.9 nm

Hence, cutoff wavelength used is 303.9 nm

We know that ν = c/λ

ν = 3 × 10⁸ / 303.9

⇒ ν = 911.7 × 10¹⁷ s⁻¹

Hence, cutoff frequency used is 911.7 × 10¹⁷ s⁻¹

A freight train rolls along a track with considerable momentum. If it were to roll at the same speed but had twice as much mass,
fomenos

Answer:

The momentum would be doubled

Explanation:

The magnitude of the momentum of the freight train is given by:

p=mv

where

m is the mass of the train

v is its speed

In this problem, we have that the speed of the train is unchanged, while the mass of the train is doubled:

m'=2m

therefore, the new momentum is

p'=m'v=(2m)v=2(mv)=2p

so, the momentum has also doubled.

Which law is used to find the magnitude of a magnetic force?
Talja [164]

Answer:

The Flemings left hand rule is used to find the magnitude of a magnetic force

Explanation:

Fleming's left hand rule states that if the first three fingers are held mutually at right angles to one another, then the fore finger points into the direction of magnetic field the middle finger in the direction of current while the thumb points in the direction of force.

Mathematically

Magnetic Force F= BILsinθ

Where

B= magnetic field density Tesla

I= current

L= length of conductor

θ= angle of conductor with field

Suppose you illuminate two thin slits by monochromatic coherent light in air and find that they produce their first interference
strojnjashka [21]

Answer:

1.7323

Explanation:

To develop this problem, it is necessary to apply the concepts related to refractive indices and Snell's law.

From the data given we have to:

n_{air}=1

\theta_{liquid} = 19.38\°

\theta_{air}35.09\°

Where n means the index of refraction.

We need to calculate the index of refraction of the liquid, then applying Snell's law we have:

n_1sin\theta_1 = n_2sin\theta_2

n_{air}sin\theta_{air} = n_{liquid}sin\theta_{liquid}

n_{liquid} = \frac{n_{air}sin\theta_{air}}{sin\theta_{liquid}}

Replacing the values we have:

n_{liquid}=\frac{(1)sin(35.09)}{sin(19.38)}

n_liquid = 1.7323

Therefore the refractive index for the liquid is 1.7323
