Secondary amines are amines that have two alkyl or aryl groups in place of the two hydrogen atoms of ammonia.

The molecule is methylpropylamine, a secondary amine because the nitrogen atom has both a methyl group and a propyl group. Compared to primary amines, secondary amines are more basic. The NH2 group is joined to the electron-withdrawing C6H5 group in aromatic amines. As a result, there are fewer single electron pairs available on N. Alkyl amines are hence more basic than aromatic amines.
