The n and l values and the number of orbitals for sublevel 5g is :

5g shell , n= 5 subshell g , l = 4, Number of orbitals for sublevel = 9.

There are total four quantum numbers:

1) Principal quantum number , n

2) Angular quantum number , l

3) Magnetic quantum number , ml

4) spin quantum number , ms

For 5g shell, n = 5

subshell g , l = 4     ....0 - s , 1 - p , 2 - d, 3 - f, 4 -g

number of orbitals in subshell = (2l + 1)  ( 2×4 + 1) = 9

Thus,  The n and l values and the number of orbitals for sublevel 5g is :

5g shell , n= 5 subshell g , l = 4, Number of orbitals for sublevel = 9.

Explain why calcium (Ca) has a greater atomic radius than magnesium (Mg).
g100num [7]

Answer:

Magnesium nucleus will attract the electrons more toward it and therefore, shrinking the size of the atom. Magnesium atom is smaller than Calcium atom because Calcium has more electron ( 20e− ) which will occupy more energy levels ( n=4 for Calcium versus n=3 for Magnesium)

A manganese electrode was oxidized electrically. If the mass of the electrode decreased by 225 mg during the passage of 1580 cou
qwelly [4]

Answer:

<u>Oxidation state of Mn = +4</u>

Explanation:

Atomic mass of Mn = 55g/mol

From Faraday's law of electrolysis,

Electrochemical equivalent = \frac{mass}{charge}

i.e Z = \frac{m}{Q} = \frac{0.225g}{1580C} = 0.0001424 g/C

But Equivalent weight, E = atomic mass ÷ valency  = Z × 96,485

⇒ \frac{55}{valency} = 0.0001424 × 96,485

<u>∴ Valency of Mn = +4</u>
