A confined aquifer with a porosity of 0.15 is 30 m thick. The potentiometric surface elevation at two observation wells 1000 m a

part are 52.35 m and 50.90 m. If the horizontal hydraulic conductivity of the aquifer is 25 m/day. Determine the flow rate per unit width of the aquifer, specific discharge, and average linear velocity of the flow assuming steady unidirectional flow. How long would it take for a tracer to travel the distance between the observation wells?

Answer:

Part (a) The flow rate per unit width of the aquifer is 1.0875 m³/day

Part (b) The specific discharge of the flow is 0.0363 m/day

Part (c) The average linear velocity of the flow is 0.242 m/day

Part (d) The time taken for a tracer to travel the distance between the observation wells is 4132.23 days = 99173.52 hours

Explanation:

Part (a) the flow rate per unit width of the aquifer

From Darcy's law;

q = -Kb\frac{dh}{dl}

where;

q is the flow rate

K is the permeability or conductivity of the aquifer = 25  m/day

b is the aquifer thickness

dh is the change in th vertical hight = 50.9m - 52.35m = -1.45 m

dl is the change in the horizontal hight = 1000 m

q = -(25*30)*(-1.45/1000)

q = 1.0875 m³/day

Part (b) the specific discharge of the flow

V = \frac{Q}{A} = \frac{q}{b} = -K\frac{dh}{dl}\\\\V = -(25 m/d).(\frac{-1.45 m}{1000 m}) = 0.0363 m/day

V = 0.0363 m/day

Part (c) the average linear velocity of the flow assuming steady unidirectional flow

Va = V/Φ

Φ is the porosity = 0.15

Va = 0.0363 / 0.15

Va = 0.242 m/day

Part (d) the time taken for a tracer to travel the distance between the observation wells

The distance between the two wells = 1000 m

average linear velocity = 0.242 m/day

Time = distance / speed

Time = (1000 m) / (0.242 m/day)

Time = 4132.23 days

        = 4132.23 days *\frac{24 .hrs}{1.day} = 99173.52, hours

Find an equation in x and y for the line tangent to the curve ()=4,()=cos() at the point where =4.
m_a_m_a [10]

An equation in x and y for the line tangent to the curve ()=4,()=cos() at the point where =4 is x(t)=2t+2,y(t)=t^4.

<h3>What is tangent?</h3>

In calculation, the digression line to a plane bend at a given point is the straight line that "simply contacts" the bend by then. Leibniz characterized it as the line through a couple of boundlessly close focuses on the bend. The chart of digression is intermittent, implying that it rehashes the same thing endlessly. In contrast to sine and cosine in any case, digression has asymptotes isolating every one of its periods. The space of the digression capability is all genuine numbers with the exception of at whatever point cos⁡(θ)=0, where the digression capability is vague. Assuming they stroll in an orderly fashion, they are fundamentally following a digression way for the shape that is made inside the fencing.

A 5.0 kg box is sliding across a waxed floor by the application of a 15 N east force. If the force of friction is 2.5 N west, wh
coldgirl [10]

1) 12.5 N east

There are two forces acting on the box along the horizontal direction:

- The applied force of 15 N east, we indicate it with F

- The force of friction of 2.5 N west, we indicate it with F_f

Taking east as positive direction, we can write the two forces has

F=+15 N\\F_f = -2.5 N

Therefore, the net force on the box will be:

F_{net} = F + F_f = 15 + (-2.5) = +12.5 N

And the positive sign means the direction is east.

2) 2.5 m/s^2

We can solve this part by using Newton's second law:

F_{net}=ma

where

F_{net} is the net force on the box

m is its mass

a is the acceleration

For the box in this problem,

F_{net} = 12.5 m/s^2 (east)

m = 5.0 kg

Solving for a, we find the acceleration:

a=\frac{F_{net}}{m}=\frac{12.5}{5.0}=2.5 m/s^2

And the direction is the same as the net force (east)
