A confined aquifer with a porosity of 0.15 is 30 m thick. The potentiometric surface elevation at two observation wells 1000 m a

part are 52.35 m and 50.90 m. If the horizontal hydraulic conductivity of the aquifer is 25 m/day. Determine the flow rate per unit width of the aquifer, specific discharge, and average linear velocity of the flow assuming steady unidirectional flow. How long would it take for a tracer to travel the distance between the observation wells?

Answer:

Part (a) The flow rate per unit width of the aquifer is 1.0875 m³/day

Part (b) The specific discharge of the flow is 0.0363 m/day

Part (c) The average linear velocity of the flow is 0.242 m/day

Part (d) The time taken for a tracer to travel the distance between the observation wells is 4132.23 days = 99173.52 hours

Explanation:

Part (a) the flow rate per unit width of the aquifer

From Darcy's law;

q = -Kb\frac{dh}{dl}

where;

q is the flow rate

K is the permeability or conductivity of the aquifer = 25  m/day

b is the aquifer thickness

dh is the change in th vertical hight = 50.9m - 52.35m = -1.45 m

dl is the change in the horizontal hight = 1000 m

q = -(25*30)*(-1.45/1000)

q = 1.0875 m³/day

Part (b) the specific discharge of the flow

V = \frac{Q}{A} = \frac{q}{b} = -K\frac{dh}{dl}\\\\V = -(25 m/d).(\frac{-1.45 m}{1000 m}) = 0.0363 m/day

V = 0.0363 m/day

Part (c) the average linear velocity of the flow assuming steady unidirectional flow

Va = V/Φ

Φ is the porosity = 0.15

Va = 0.0363 / 0.15

Va = 0.242 m/day

Part (d) the time taken for a tracer to travel the distance between the observation wells

The distance between the two wells = 1000 m

average linear velocity = 0.242 m/day

Time = distance / speed

Time = (1000 m) / (0.242 m/day)

Time = 4132.23 days

        = 4132.23 days *\frac{24 .hrs}{1.day} = 99173.52, hours

The chart shows the times and accelerations for three drivers.
aliina [53]

The lists from greatest to lowest change in velocity.Dustin → Diego → Kira. Option A is correct.

<h3 /><h3>What is acceleration?</h3>

The rate of change of velocity with respect to time is known as acceleration. According to Newton's second law, the eventual effect of all forces applied to a body is its acceleration.

The acceleration is obtained one by one from the given data as the ratio of the velocity to the time.

For the acceleration of each, you can refer to the excel table attached below.

The velocity changes are listed from largest to least. Dustin and Diego Kira.

Hence, option A is the right answer.

. A rock is dropped from a height of 4 m. How fast is it going when it hits the ground? The rock has a mass of 2 kg. (Hint: MEi
Bas_tet [7]

Hello!

When the rock is dropped, it only contains Gravitational Potential Energy, and when it hits the ground, it contains Kinetic Energy.

So:

PE = KE
\large\boxed{mgh = \frac{1}{2}mv^2}

We can rearrange to solve for velocity. Cancel out mass and solve.

gh = \frac{1}{2}v^2\\\\2gh = v^2\\\\v = \sqrt{2gh}

Plug in the givens:

v = \sqrt{2(9.8)(4)} = \boxed{8.85 \frac{m}{s}}

The chart shows the bids provided by four contractors to complete a job.
serg [7]

"Cost-effective" means "most economical", "lowest cost", "cheapest".

Joshua . . . charges $25 an hour, says the job will take him 5 hours.  If Joshua is hired, then the total cost to get the job done is ($25/hr) x (5 hr) = <em>$125</em> .

Carmen . . .  $20 per hour, 7 hours, total cost ($20/hr) x (7 hr) = $140

Dante . . . $30 per hour, 6 hours, total cost ($30/hr) x (6 hr) = $180

Alicia . . .  $20 per hour, 8 hours, total  cost ($20/hr) x (8 hr) = $160

<em>Joshua's</em> total bid cost is the lowest, so his company should get the job.

Notice that all of these bids are predictions of something that hasn't happened yet.  <u><em>IF</em></u> Joshua can actually finish the job in 5 hours, like he says, then he would be the cheapest.  But his estimate of the time required is the shortest of all.  That's great if he's done this kind of job before.  But if he doesn't have experience doing it, I would be a little careful.  He could get part of the way through the job and discover that it's going to take him longer than he thought.

There are also certain regional considerations:

-- I live in Chicago, where cost is not always the main factor.  Here, you would have to award the job to Dante, because his brother supplies the concrete in the ward where the job will be done, and his niece is dating the alderman of that ward.

-- In California, you'd have to give Alicia the job because the board of directors and management of her company are all women.  You should also plan to provide chocolates, flowers, and college scholarships to her administrative staff and IT department relatively soon after the job is completed.

Asha walks 15 m west, then 20 m north, then 15 m east. Calculate the distance
DochEvi [55]

Distance walked to the west= 15m

" " " " north= 20m

" " " " east = 15m

Total Distance= (15+ 20+ 15) m

= 50m

Asha covered 50m distance in total.
