As per the question the mass of the bag of feathers is given as 1.0 lb.

Hence mass(m) = 1.0 lb

The bag is under free fall.Hence the acceleration with which the bag falls towards the centre of Earth is nothing else except the acceleration due to gravity.

Hence acceleration a=g=9.8 m/s^2

The time(t)given in the question=1.5 s

We are asked to calculate the distance travelled by the bag at that instant.

Let the air resistance is very small which is neglected.

From equation of kinematics we know that-

       S=ut +0.5at^2

Here S is the distance travelled,u is the initial velocity and a is the acceleration.

As the motion is under free fall,the initial velocity (u)= 0

Hence distance travelled

                S= 0×1.5+{0.5×(-9.8)×(1.5)^2}

                  =0-11.025 m

                  = -11.025 m

                  =  -11.0 m

Here negative sign only indicates vertical downward motion .

Taking only magnitude the distance travelled S =11 m.

Hence the correct option is B.

Compare the time period of two simple pendulums of length 4m and 16m at a place.
Vlad1618 [11]

Answer:

the period of the 16 m pendulum is twice the period of the 4 m pendulum

Explanation:

Recall that the period (T) of a pendulum of length (L)  is defined as:

T=2\,\pi\,\sqrt{ \frac{L}{g} }

where "g" is the local acceleration of gravity.

SInce both pendulums are at the same place, "g" is the same for both, and when we compare the two periods, we get:

T_1=2\,\pi\,\sqrt{\frac{4}{g} } \\T_2=2\,\pi\,\sqrt{\frac{16}{g} } \\ \\\frac{T_2}{T_1} =\sqrt{\frac{16}{4} } =2

therefore the period of the 16 m pendulum is twice the period of the 4 m pendulum.

An egg is thrown upward with a velocity of 4.5 m/s. How long will it take to reach it's maximum height?
Ray Of Light [21]

Answer:

0.45 seconds

Explanation:

Letting the value of g = 10 m/s/s

final velocity (v) = 0 m/s (since the egg will come to rest at the maximum height)

initial velocity(u) = 4.5 m/s

acceleration = -10 m/s/s (since the gravity is acting against the egg)

time = t seconds

From the first equation of motion:

<em>v = u + at</em>

<em>0 = 4.5 + (-10)t</em>

<em>t = -4.5 / -10</em>

t = 0.45 seconds
