It is known that acids compounds contains hydrogen and produces hydrogen ion in water. A binary acid however is an acid that have two elements, one of the element has a hydrogen attached to it. Examples of binary acids are hydrogen fluoride (HF), hydrogen bromide (HBr) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S). In naming a binary acid, it has two rules; one, as pure compounds and two, as acid solutions. For pure compounds, start with the name ‘hydrogen’ and end the anion name with ‘-ide’. For acidic compounds, start with ‘hydro-‘, end the anion with ‘-ic’ and add ‘acid’.

Answer:

NH_4Cl -> Acidic

NaClO -> Basic

KNO_3 -> Neutral

Explanation:

Hello,

In this case, considering the given salts, NH_4Cl, NaClO, KNO_3 one classifies them as follows:

- NH_4Cl: ammonium chloride is an acidic salt since it comes from ammonium hydroxide which is a weak base and hydrochloric acid which a strong base, thus, due to the partial neutralization, there are still traces of an acidic character which provides such behavior for this salt.

- NaClO: sodium hypochlorite is a basic salt since it comes from sodium hydroxide which is a strong base and hypochlorous acid which is a weak acid by means of the contrary behavior of the NH_4Cl since traces of a basic character promote such basic behavior.

- KNO_3: potassium nitrate is a neutral salt as long as it comes from the potassium hydroxide which is a strong base and the nitric acid which is a strong acid, promoting the complete neutralization.

Best regards.

Calcium carbonate is most likely to dissolve in water with which characteristics?
Marysya12 [62]

Calcium carbonate is most likely to dissolve in water with:

e. Lots of Carbon dioxide and colder temperature.

Explanation:

  • Calcium carbonate is very sparingly soluble in water. However, it has been observed to dissolve in cold water with higher concentration of Carbon dioxide.
  • The reason behind the observation is the formation of Calcium bicarbonate which is soluble in water.
  • Higher concentration of Carbon dioxide in water turns it acidic. When this acidic water reacts with calcium carbonate it forms Calcium bicarbonate which is soluble in water.
  • So,Calcium carbonate is most likely to dissolve in water with lots of Carbon dioxide and colder temperature.
