Gestalt psychology provides a holistic perception to how the brain tends to deal with information it picks. The belief is that the whole is greater than the individual parts. Gestalt is a German word which means whole.
Psychologists that subscribes to this school of thought believes that the brain generally relates with events by creating a complete perceived view of such. For example, christmas lights are pictured as moving because its easier for the brain to relate with such rythm in that way. This helps the brain memorize a piece better than looking at individual relationship between the parts.
