Answer:

True

Explanation:

A nuclear reactor is a powerful source of radiation, since fission reactions produce neutrons and gamma rays, both of which are highly penetrating radiations. A reactor must have aptly designed shielding around it to absorb and reflect this radiation in order to protect technicians, other reactor personnel and the general public from exposure.

In many recent reactors, the shield consists of a thick concrete structure around the reactor system referred to as the biological shield. This shield may contain heavy metals, such as lead or steel, which are more effective absorbents of gamma rays, and heavy aggregates may be used in the concrete itself to achieve the same purpose.

These shields are expensive and contribute immensely to the huge cost of nuclear energy .

Which of the following compounds has the highest boiling point.
nlexa [21]
Answer:
            1-Pentanol has the highest boiling point.

Explanation:
                   Boiling points of given compounds are as follow,

                 1) 2-Pentanone  =  101 °C

                 2) 1-Pentanol  =  138 °C

                 3)  Pentane  =  36.1 °C

                 4)  Pentanal  =  103 °C

Pentanol has greatest boiling point as compare to others because it involes a strongest intermolecular interactions called as hydrogen bond interactions. Remaining compounds lack the direct attachement of hydrogen to most electrnegative atom like oxygen which is present in 1-Pentanol.

Sam noticed on a climate map that most of the areas with high rainfall and a tropical climate were located in one region. Why ar
denis23 [38]

Answer:

Okay here's the answer ↓

Step-by-step explanation:

Tropical climate is one of the five major climate groups in the Köppen climate classification. Tropical climates are characterized by monthly average temperatures of 18 ℃ (64.4 ℉) or higher year-round and feature hot temperatures. Annual precipitation is often abundant in tropical climates, and shows a seasonal rhythm to varying degrees. There are normally only two seasons in tropical climates, a wet season and a dry season. The annual temperature range in tropical climates is normally very small. Sunlight is intense because they are receiving direct sunlight.

How much energy is required to boil 65 grams of 100°C water
And then heat the steam to 150°C?
Artyom0805 [142]

Answer:

13598 J

Explanation:

Q = m × c × ∆T

Where;

Q = amount of energy (J)

m = mass (grams)

c = specific heat capacity

∆T = change in temperature

m = 65g, specific heat capacity of water = 4.184J/g°C, initial temperature= 100°C, final temperature = 150°C

Q = 65 × 4.184 × (150 - 100)

Q = 271.96 × 50

Q = 13598 J

Hence, 13598 J of energy is required to boil 65 grams of 100°C water and then heat the steam to 150°C.
