Explanation:

In the electromagnet, the soft iron core is wounded by the coil and the current is passed through it. Then, it will behave like a magnet. When the current is switched off it will loose its magnetism.

Electromagnet is the temporary magnet. The magnetic power of the temporary magnet can be increased or decreased. The strength of the magnetic field depends on the number of turns of the coil and the magnitude of the current.

But in the case of permanent magnet, the magnetic power can not be varied. It is fixed.
