Using the wavelength expressions, such as the distance between two peaks of a wave, that of the frequency as a function of the speed and the wavelength, such as the period inversely proportional to the frequency we have to for the first question

the wavelength is the distance between the two ridges that is

\lambda = 0.8m

For the second question the frequency is determined as the rate of change of the velocity versus the wavelength, that is

f = \frac{v}{\lambda}

f = \frac{2.2}{0.8}

f= 2.75Hz \approx 2.8Hz

For the third question the period is inversely proportional to the frequency, therefore

T = \frac{1}{f}

T = \frac{1}{2.8}

T = 0.36s

Astronomers observe a quasar and measure its spectrum. A particular spectral line has a value of 279.8 nm when measured using a
Arada [10]

Answer:

v=-80.5*10^{6}m/s

Explanation:

For this particular problem, we are going to use the non-relativistic Doppler effect which, is the change in frequency of a wave concerning an observer who's moving relative to the wave source. The shifted wavelength is:

\lambda_{shifted}=\lambda_{0}\left(1+\dfrac{v}{c_{0}}\right),

where \lambda_{0} is the wavelenght as it comes from the source, v is the velocity of the source (the quasar) and, c_{0} is the velocity of the wave. In this case, the velocity of the wave is the speed of light, c_{0}=c=3*10^{8}\ m/s.

Solving for v,

v=c\left(\dfrac{\lambda_{shifted}}{\lambda_{0}}-1\right),

now computing

v=3*10^{8}\left(\dfrac{279.8*10^{-9}}{382.5*10^{-9}}-1\right),

v=-80.5*10^{6}m/s

The velocity of the quasar is negative because it is getting close to the Earth!

A shopping cart is given an initial velocity of 4 m/s and experiences a constant acceleration of 4 m/s2. What is the magnitude o
NNADVOKAT [17]

Answer:

48m

Explanation:

  • Initial velocity = 4m/s
  • Acceleration = 4m/s²
  • Time = 4s
  • Displacement = ?

From Second equation of motion ,

\longrightarrow s = ut + 1/2at²

\longrightarrow s = 4*4 + 1/2*4*(4)² m

\longrightarrow s = (16 + 2 * 16) m

\longrightarrow s = ( 16 + 32 )m

\longrightarrow s = 48 m

Why does it hurt more to land on the wooden floor of a gym than on a padded mat?
Kaylis [27]

Answer:

The wooden floor exerts a greater force to give the same impulse as a padded mat.

Explanation:

-The wooden floor exerts a greater force for the same impulse as the padded mat.

-Unlike the wooded floor, the padded mat absorbs some of the energy when you fall. This in turn makes it exert less force on the body during the fall.

-Hence, you are less hurt when you fall on the padded floor.
