Complementary angles add up to 90 degrees.

Make expressions for the angle and its complement;

  • Angle: x
  • Complement: x + 16

Make the angle and its complement add up to 90 in an equation.

(x) + (x + 16) = 90

  • Combine like terms (x + x).

2x + 16 = 90

Subtract 16 from both sides.

2x = 74

  • Divide both sides by 2.

x = 37

The measure of the angle is 37 degrees.

x-16+x=180

2x-16=180

2x=196

x=98 degrees

x-16= 82 degrees

Hope this helps!

Extracting out that inner right angle.

Hypotenuse = 8

Height = h

Adjacent :

=  \frac{10}{5}  = 2

Height, h :

{ \tt{h =  \sqrt{ {8}^{2}  -  {5}^{2} } }} \\ { \tt{h =  \sqrt{64 - 25} }} \\ { \tt{h =  \sqrt{39} }} \\ the \: height \: is \: { \boxed{6.2}} \: units

Solve for a: a(a-3) =100
marissa [1.9K]
a(a-3) =100\\
a^2-3a-100=0\\
\Delta=(-3)^2-4\cdot1\cdot(-100)=9+400=409\\
\sqrt{\Delta}=\sqr{409}\\
a_1=\dfrac{-(-3)-\sqrt{409}}{2\cdot1}=\dfrac{3-\sqrt{409}}{2}\\
a_2=\dfrac{-(-3)+\sqrt{409}}{2\cdot1}=\dfrac{3+\sqrt{409}}{2}
