A 200-m-wide river flows due east at a uniform speed of 2.0 m/s. A boat with a speed of 8.0 m/s relative to the water leaves the

south bank pointed in a direction 30° west of north. What are the (a) magnitude and (b) direction of the boat’s velocity relative to the ground? (c) How long does the boat take to cross the river?

Answer:

Explanation:

Given

Width of river=200 m

Speed of river(v_r)=2 m/s

Speed of Boat relative to river(v_{br})=8 m/s

Boat leaves the bank 30^{\circ} west of north

v_{br}=-8cos30\hat{i}+8sin30\hat{j}

v_{r}=2\hat{i}

Therefore velocity of boat w.r.t ground

v_b=v_{br}+v_r=-8cos30\hat{i}+8sin30\hat{j}+2\hat{i}

v_b=-4.928\hat{i}+4\hat{j}

Magnitude of boat speed=\sqrt{4.928^2+4^2}=6.34 m/s

For direction

tan\theta =\frac{4}{4.928}

\theta =39.06^{\circ} w.r.t to west

to cross the river its north component will help so

time taken t=\frac{200}{4}=50 s

Leto [7]

Answer:

a)   298.5 nm ,  522.4 nm  and b)  radiation frequency does not change

Explanation:

When electromagnetic radiation reaches a medium with a different index of refraction, the medium vibrates the molecules, as if it were a resonance process, whereby the medium vibrates at the same frequency as the incident light.

On the other hand, when the light reaches another medium its average speed within the medium changes, it is now less than the speed of light in a vacuum (c) for this to happen as we saw that the frequency is constant there must be a change in the wavelength of the radiation that is characterized by the ratio

    λₙ = λ₀ / n

    λₙ = 400 nm    in the void

    λₙ = 400 / 1.34

    λₙ= 298.5 nm

   λ₀ = 700 nm

   λₙ = 700 / 1.34

   λₙ = 522.4 nm

The radiation frequency does not change

PIT_PIT [208]

Answer:

160 m

Explanation:

The intensity, I, of the sound is inversely proportional to the square of the distance, r, from the source.

I\propto \dfrac{1}{r^2}

Hence,

I_1r_1^2 = I_2r_2^2

r_2 = r_1\sqrt{\dfrac{I_1}{I_2}}

From the question, I_2 is half of I_1

r_2 = r_1\sqrt{\dfrac{I_1}{0.5I_1}}

r_2 = r_1\sqrt{2}

r_2 = 113\text{ m}\sqrt{2} = 160 \text{ m}

A light wave travels through air at a speed of 3.0x108 m/s. Green light has a wavelength of about 5.76x1014Hz. What is the wavel
solong [7]

Answer:

521 nm

Explanation:

Given the values and units we are given, I'm assuming  5.76*10^14 Hz is frequency.

The formula to use here is λ * υ = c, where λ is wavelength, υ is frequency, and c is the speed of light.

λ = \frac{3*10^8\frac{m}{s} }{5.76*10^{14}Hz} = {5.20833*10^{-7} m}\approx{521 *10^{-9}m}={521 nm}
