The vitreous humor, a transparent, gelatinous fluid that fills most of the eyeball, has an index of refraction of 1.34. Visible

light ranges in wavelength from 400 nm (violet) to 700 nm (red), as measured in air. This light travels through the vitreous humor and strikes the rods and cones at the surface of the retina. What are the ranges of:
(a) The wavelength inside the vitreous humor?
(b) The frequency?

Answer:

a)   298.5 nm ,  522.4 nm  and b)  radiation frequency does not change

Explanation:

When electromagnetic radiation reaches a medium with a different index of refraction, the medium vibrates the molecules, as if it were a resonance process, whereby the medium vibrates at the same frequency as the incident light.

On the other hand, when the light reaches another medium its average speed within the medium changes, it is now less than the speed of light in a vacuum (c) for this to happen as we saw that the frequency is constant there must be a change in the wavelength of the radiation that is characterized by the ratio

    λₙ = λ₀ / n

    λₙ = 400 nm    in the void

    λₙ = 400 / 1.34

    λₙ= 298.5 nm

   λ₀ = 700 nm

   λₙ = 700 / 1.34

   λₙ = 522.4 nm

The radiation frequency does not change

Two mass m1 and m2 lie on a frictionless surface. Between the two masses is a compressed spring, with spring constant k. The sys
max2010maxim [7]

Answer:

The spring was compressed the following amount:

\Delta x=\sqrt{ \frac{m_1\,v_1^2+ m_2\,v_2^2}{k} }

Explanation:

Use conservation of energy between initial and final state, considering that the surface id frictionless, and there is no loss in thermal energy due to friction. the total initial energy is the potential energy of the compressed spring (by an amount \Delta x), and the total final energy is the addition of the kinetic energies of both masses:

E_i=\frac{1}{2} k\,(\Delta x)^2\\\\E_f=\frac{1}{2} m_1\,v_1^2+\frac{1}{2} m_2\,v_2^2

E_i=E_f\\

\frac{1}{2} k\,(\Delta x)^2=\frac{1}{2} m_1\,v_1^2+\frac{1}{2} m_2\,v_2^2\\k\,(\Delta x)^2=m_1\,v_1^2+ m_2\,v_2^2\\(\Delta x)^2=\frac{m_1\,v_1^2+ m_2\,v_2^2}{k} \\\Delta x=\sqrt{ \frac{m_1\,v_1^2+ m_2\,v_2^2}{k} }

Why does a rolling sphere slows down?
VLD [36.1K]

The sphere slow down due to friction force between the surface of the sphere and the surface on that the sphere is rolling . The friction force acting against the motion of the sphere. Thats why it is slowed down. In fact not only a sphere, anything can not slow down untill a force act against it's motion.

How do determine which is Y2, Y1, X2, and X1 on a graph. <br><br> And how do find rise over run.
fredd [130]
One point will be X1,Y1 and the other will be X2,Y2. It does not matter which is which except that X1 and Y1 have to be the same point and X2 and Y2 have to be the same point. For example, let's say you were given (2,3) and (6,8). No matter which point is X1,Y1 and the other is X2,Y2, the slope will still be 5/4.

The rise is the change in y from one point to the other. The run would be the change in x from one point to the other.
