Calculate the solubility of carbon dioxide in water at an atmospheric pressure of 0.400 atm (a typical value at high altitude).
likoan [24]

Answer:

1.40*10⁻² M

Explanation:

We have the solubility formula

Solubility,

S = KH*P

where

KH = measure of hardness of water / carbonate hardness = 3.50*10⁻² mol/L.atm

P = atmospheric pressure = 0.400 atm

Hence, we have

S = KH*P

= (3.50*10⁻² mol/L.atm)*(0.400 atm)

= 1.40*10⁻² mol/L

But 1 mol/L = 1 M,

Hence, the answer (1.40*10⁻² mol/L ) is equivalent to

= 1.40*10⁻² M

Write a structural formula for 1-pentanol, the alcohol derived from pentane, by making a substitution on one of the carbon atoms
DedPeter [7]
To yield an alcohol from an alkane, one reaction could be from alkyl halide through hydrolysis reaction. The alkyl halide should be pentyl chloride. When you add water to it, the OH⁻ ion will replace Cl to make 1-pentanol, while the Cl⁻ ion binds with H⁺ to form HCl. The main product is pentanol, while the by-product is HCl.

In each case, decide if the change is a "chemical change" or a "physical change". a) A cup of household bleach changes the color
Crazy boy [7]

Answer:A cup of household bleach changes the color of your favorite T-shirt from purple to pink. - chemical change

Water vapor in your exhaled breath condenses in the air on a cold day.- physical change

Plants use carbon dioxide from the air to make sugar.- chemical change

Butter melts when placed in the Sun- physical change

Explanation:

A chemical change leads to the formation of a new substance and is not easily reversible. A physical change does not lead to the formation of a new substance and is easily reversible. Physical changes include condensation, melting,etc while a chemical change is a chemical reaction.
