1. The simplest alkane is the gas methane, whose molecular formula is CH4. Methane exists as a tetrahedral shape, but it is often represented by a flattened structure as are most organic compounds.

Two four-carbon alkanes are known, and they have measurably different chemical and physical properties.  Their structures are H3CCH2CH2CH3 and H3CCH(CH3)2.  Therefore they were named normal butane, often abbreviated as n-butane, and isobutane.  The straight-chain form is considered the "normal" form.  Alternatively, they could be named using the systematic IUPAC method as 1-methylpropane and 2-methylpropane, or even as butane and 2-methylpropane.  The IUPAC method names the longest straight carbon chain in the usual way and then numbers the carbons; the location of a substituent group is given by the number of its carbon.  The IUPAC method is always used for more complicated molecules, but many of the simpler ones still use non-systematic names, called trivial names, because these are less cumbersome to use.

2 . Unsaturated hydrocarbons are hydrocarbons that have double or triple covalent bonds between adjacent carbon atoms. The term "unsaturated" means more hydrogen atoms may added to the hydrocarbon to make it saturated: consisting all single bonds.

Dont know 3. Sorry!

Idk about 1, but for 2a: saturated means that all carbons have the maximum amount of hydrogens attached to them, and unsaturated means that they don’t. Only alkanes are saturated because they have all single bonds, so they have the max amt of hydrogens bonded to the carbons. 2b: saturated: butane, octane, methane. Unsaturated: ethene, butene.

12.7 grams of magnesium chloride is dissolved into water in a flask and set aside for an experiment. The scientist forgets about
Anna71 [15]

C. Yes, all 12.7 grams will be in the flask.

Explanation:

The scientist will still be able to recover enough magnesium chloride from the original flask to continue with her experiment.

The solution formed with the solute, magnesium chloride dissolve in water is a mixture.

When the water evaporates, it will leave the magnesium chloride behind. Every atom of the chloride would still be in the flask.

Only the water will leave the solution

Give the number of protons, electrons, and neutrons in neutral atoms of each of the following isotopes:
Georgia [21]

Answer:

(a) 7,3 Li: 3 protons, 3 electrons, 4 neutrons.

(b) 125,52 Te: 52 protons, 52 electrons, 73 neutrons.

(c) 109,47 Ag: 47 protons, 47 electrons, 62 neutrons.

(d) 15,7 N: 7 protons, 7 electrons, 8 neutrons.

(e) 31,15 P: 15 protons, 15 electrons, 16 neutrons.

Explanation:

In the case of the isotopes in neutral atoms, the number of electrons and protons is equal to the atomic number, the number of neutrons is equal to the number of the isotope minus the atomic number.

(a) 7,3 Li

The number of protons: 3.

Number of electrons: 3.

Number of neutrons: 7-3=4.

(b) 125,52 Te

The number of protons: 52.

Number of electrons: 52.

Number of neutrons: 125-52=73.

(c) 109,47 Ag

The number of protons: 47.

Number of electrons: 47.

Number of neutrons: 109-47=62.

(d) 15,7 N

The number of protons: 7.

Number of electrons: 7.

Number of neutrons: 15-7=8.

(e) 31,15 P

The number of protons: 15.

Number of electrons: 15.

Number of neutrons: 31-15=16.
