REDOX is the process whereby electrons are transfered from one specie to another, via oxidation-reduction.

In a chemical reaction, when one specie causes another to gain electrons, it is called a reductant (it gives electrons). This is an oxidation reaction, because it loses electrons of its own. While the other specie goes through reduction from gaining electrons.

At 25°C, K = 0.090 for the following reaction. H2O(g) + Cl2O(g) equilibrium reaction arrow 2 HOCl(g) Calculate the concentration
wlad13 [49]

Answer:

  • [HOCl] = 0.00909 mol/liter
  • [H₂O] = 0.03901 mol/liter
  • [Cl₂O] = 0.02351 mol/liter

Explanation:

1. Chemical reaction:

H_2O(g)+Cl_2O(g)\rightleftharpoons 2 HOCl(g)

2. Initial concentrations:

i) 1.3 g H₂O

  • Number of moles = 1.3g / (18.015g/mol) = 0.07216 mol
  • Molarity, M = 0.07216 mol / 1.5 liter = 0.0481 mol/liter

ii) 2.2 g Cl₂O

  • Number of moles = 2.2 g/ (67.45 g/mol) = 0.0326 mol
  • Molarity = 0.0326mol / 1.5 liter = 0.0217 mol/liter

3. ICE (Initial, Change, Equilibrium) table

            H_2O(g)+Cl_2O(g)\rightleftharpoons 2 HOCl(g)

I            0.0481      0.0326            0

C              -x                 -x              +x

E          0.0481-x    0.0326-x         x

4. Equilibrium expression

       K_c=\dfrac{[HOCl]^2}{[H_2O].[Cl_2O]}

     0.09=\dfrac{x^2}{(0.0481-x)(0.0326-x)}

5. Solve:

            x^2=0.09(x-0.0481)(x-0.0326)\\\\0.91x^2+0.007263x-0.000141125=0

Use the quadatic formula:

x=\dfrac{-0.007263\pm \sqrt{(0.007263)^2-4(0.91)(-0.000141125)}}{2(0.91)}

The positive result is x = 0.00909

Thus the concentrations are:

  • [HOCl] = 0.00909 mol/liter
  • [H₂O] = 0.0481 - 0.00909 = 0.03901 mol/liter
  • [Cl₂O] = 0.0326 - 0.00909 = 0.02351 mol/liter

2. When two forces act on an object in opposite directions, you calculate the net
exis [7]

When two forces act on an object in opposite directions, the net force can be calculated by subtracting the two forces.

Explanation:

  • The net/final force by subtracting the two given opposite forces as asked in the above question.

For example: If you keep a bottle on the table, the downward force subtracted from the upward force will be equal to the net force.

  • If the net force equals zero then the objects will be balanced, otherwise unbalanced.

For example: In the tug of war when two forces are of different units the force with the greater strength will have an advantage, like if the team on the right is stronger than that of left than the rope will move towards the right.

How many significant figures are in each of the following measurements? (c) 0.03003 kg (f) 3.8200 x 103 L (a) (d) 0.00450 m 35.0
erica [24]

Answer:

c =four significant figures = 3003

f = Four significant figures = 3820

d =(i) three significant figures = 450

d =(ii) Six significant figures  = 35.0445

b = significant figures = 59.0001

e = five significant figures = 67000

Explanation:

c = 0.03003 kg

four significant figures = 3003

f = 3.8200 × 10³ L

Four significant figures = 3820

d =(i) 0.00450 m and (ii) 35.0445 g

(i) three significant figures = 450

(ii) Six significant figures = 35.0445

b = 59.0001 cm

six significant figures = 59.0001

e = 67000

five significant figures = 67000

The given measurement have five significant figures 41006. this measurement can be rounded to three significant figures i.e, 0.410 g.

All non-zero digits are consider significant figures like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

Leading zeros are not consider as a significant figures. e.g. 0.03 in this number only one significant figure present which is 3.

Zero between the non zero digits are consider significant like 104 consist of three significant figures.

The zeros at the right side e.g 2400 are also significant. There are four significant figures are present.
