The four natural carbon compounds that long-chain in everyday life are \boxed{{\text{carbohydrates, methane, silk, and coal}}}.

The four synthetic carbon compounds that are used in everyday life are \boxed{{\text{teflon, nylon, detergents, and melamine}}}.

Further explanation:

Carbon compounds:

These are the substances that are composed of carbon atoms bonded to any other element. Most of the carbon compounds are organic compounds such as benzene, glucose while there are also inorganic carbon compounds such as carbon dioxide, carbonates, and carbon monoxide.

There is a large range of compounds that are formed by carbon as compared to any other element in the periodic table, except hydrogen. This unique property of carbon is attributed due to its catenation. It is the property of an element due to which it can form bonds with itself and results in the formation of long-chain compounds.

Following are the natural carbon compounds used in everyday life:

1. Biomolecules such as carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and fats are used to fulfill the food requirements of humans.

2. Natural fabrics such as silk, cotton, wool are used in clothing.

3. Organic compounds such as methane, butane, and ethylene are used in wide variety of everyday items. Methane is used to make printing ink and motor tires. Butane is used as LPG fuel in gas cylinders in its liquid form. Ethylene is used as a food preservative.

4. Coal and petroleum are widely utilized in transportation.

Following are the synthetic carbon compounds used in everyday life:

1. Polymers such as polythene and teflon have wide applications in homeware appliances. Polythene is used in manufacturing wires, pipes, bottles, buckets. Teflon is used as coatings for non-stick cookwares used in kitchens.

2. Synthetic fabrics such as nylon and polyester are used to make clothing materials.

3. Soaps and detergents are used for cleansing purposes in everyday life.

4. Melamine has fire-resistant properties and is therefore added in paints, papers, and plastics. It is also used as a pesticide.

Which colorless and odorless gas, produced by radioactive decay of Uranium-238, is considered to be a cancer-causing agent?
alexdok [17]
The correct answer is b. Radon. Oxygen, Hyrdrogen, and Boron, are not radioactivel ike Radon and it regenerates quickly meaning that even though it has a short half-life period, it stays for a long time once released. It also has no taste so it's difficult to notice without proper gear because you can't feel it.

Determine the pH of a 0.048 M hypochlorous acid (HClO) solution. Hypochlorous acid is a weak acid (Ka = 4.0 ✕ 10−8 M).
storchak [24]

pH of 0.048 M HClO is 4.35.

Explanation:

HClO is a weak acid and it is dissociated as,

HClO ⇄ H⁺ + ClO⁻

We can write the equilibrium expression as,

Ka = $\frac{[H^{+}] [ClO^{-}]  }{[HClO]}

Ka = 4.0 × 10⁻⁸ M

4.0 × 10⁻⁸ M = $\frac{x \times x }{0.048}

Now we can find x by rewriting the equation as,

x² =  4.0 × 10⁻⁸ × 0.048

   = 1.92 × 10⁻⁹

Taking sqrt on both sides, we will get,

x = [H⁺] = 4.38 × 10⁻⁵

pH = -log₁₀[H⁺]

     = - log₁₀[ 4.38 × 10⁻⁵]

   = 4.35

What happens to the rock along the ridge when new molten material erupts?
Snowcat [4.5K]
The molten material then spreads out, pushing the older rock to both sides of the ridge. As the molten material cools, it forms a strip of solid rock in the center of the ridge. Then more molten material flows into the crack. The material splits apart the strip of solid rock that formed before, pushing it aside. Hope this helps! (:

Which pair of elements have the same valence electronic configuration of np³?
Dennis_Churaev [7]

Answer:

(c) P and Sb

Explanation:

We can determine the number of valence electrons of an element:

  • If it belongs to Groups 1 and 2, the number of valence electrons is equal to the number of group and the differential electron occupies the s subshell.
  • If it belongs to the groups 13-18, the number of valence electrons is equal to: "Number of group - 10" and the differential electron occupies the p subshell.

Which pair of elements have the same valence electronic configuration of np³?

(a) O and Se. NO. They belong to the group 16 and the valence electron configuration is ns² np⁴.

(b) Ge and Pb. NO. They belong to the group 14 and the valence electron configuration is ns² np².

(c) P and Sb. YES. They belong to the group 15 and the valence electron configuration is ns² np³.

(d) K and Mg. NO. They belong to the groups 1 and 2 and the valence electron configuration is ns¹ and ns².

(e) Al and Ga. NO. They belong to the group 13 and the valence electron configuration is ns² np¹.
