Answer:

The interaction of solute and solvent in which the solute specie gets stabilized is known as solvation. In the solution, the solvent surrounds the ion. Like attracts like. Polar solvents solvate polar solutes and non-polar solutes are solvated by non-polar solvents such as Benzene.

Example of solvation-Hydration where water molecules are solvent and surround a polar solute.

A solid nonconducting sphere of radius R carries a charge Q distributed uniformly throughout its volume. At a certain distancer1
Jobisdone [24]

Answer:

The magnitude of the electric field in the second case will be \frac{1}{8} of the electric field in the first case

Explanation:

The electric field at a distance r_1 < R from the center of the sphere is given by

the formula E_1  = \frac{kQr_1}{R^3}

where R is the radius of the sphere, and, Q is the charge uniformly distributed on the sphere.

It is given that the same charge Q is distributed uniformly throughout a sphere of radius 2R and we have to find the electric field at same distance r_1 from the center.

In the second case the electric field will be given by

E_2 = \frac{kQr_1}{(2R)^3}  = \frac{kQr_1}{8R^3}  =\frac{1}{8}  \frac{kQr_1}{R^3} = \frac{1}{8} E_1

Therefore the magnitude of the electric field in the second case will be \frac{1}{8} of the electric field in the first case.

Bearing in mind that a sound reflects off an object if the object is larger than the wavelength of the sound, calculate the wave
grandymaker [24]

Answer:

mucilage can detect objects the size of millimeters, whereas humans can only detect objects larger than centimeters

Explanation:

The human ear can detect sound in the range of 20 to 20000hz, we are asked to find the mid-range wavelength of the ear at f = 10000 Hz

let's use the relationship between wave speed, wavelength and frequency

           v = λ f

           λ= v / f

           λ = 343/10000

           λ = 3.43 10⁻² m

the sound range of a bat is between 25 10³ Hz and 100 10³ Hz, they also ask for the wavelength in the middle range

          f = (100 10³ + 25 10³) / 2

          f = 62.5 10³ Hz

          λ = 343 / 62.5 10³

          λ = 5.5 10⁻³ m

Therefore the size of the object that a bat can detect is much smaller than the size that a human can detect, therefore the bat is capable of detecting insects, but humans.

The mucilage can detect objects the size of millimeters, whereas humans can only detect objects larger than centimeters

Why are mineral bands in metamorphic rocks light and dark colored?
Lera25 [3.4K]

Answer:Dark minerals rich in iron and magnesium separate from light minerals rich in silica and aluminum.

Explanation: Metamorphic rocks are rocks formed as a result of the transformation of other existing rocks which can be Igneous or Sedimentary rocks,this transformation process is called METAMORPHISM. During metamorphism,rocks under Serious levels of stress which can lead to the separation of materials.

During this separation process,Dark minerals rich in iron and magnesium are separated from light minerals rich in silica and aluminum.

If the period of a wave is 9.2 s, what is its frequency (in Hz)?
gogolik [260]

<u>The period of the function is the inverse of the frequency</u>:

 ⇒ (<em>in other words)</em> period = \frac{1}{frequency}

<u>Since the period is 9.2s</u>:

 Frequency = \frac{1}{period}=\frac{1}{9.2}  =0.11_.Hz

<u>Answer: 0.11 Hz</u>

<u></u>

Hope that helps!
