Answer: option b, the distance the spring stretches.

Hook's law is: F = - K Δx

Where:

F stands for the force that the spring exerts

K is stands for the constant of the spring

Δx stands for the distance the spring is displaced from the equilibrium point.

And the negative sign is due to F is opposite to the direction in which the spring is away from the equilibrium point.

A 0.25 kg baseball is in contact with a bat for 0.0075 s and exerts a force of 18,500 N. What impulse is delivered to the ball?
Alecsey [184]
The answer is 138.75 kgm/s

Impulse (I) is the multiplication of force (F) and time interval (Δt): I = F · Δt
It is given:
m = 0.25
F = 18,500 N = 18,500 kgm/s²
Δt = 0.0075 s
I = ?

I = F · Δt = 18,500 5kgm/s² * 0.0075 s = 18,500 * 0.0075 kgm/s² * s = 138.75 kgm/s

If the particle is located slightly to the left of point B, its acceleration is __________.
Igoryamba

(1) directed to the right

Explanation:

To the right of B, u(x) is a decreasing function & so its derivative is negative,this implies that the x component of the force on a particle at this position is positive,or that the force is directed towards right .Small deviations from equilibrium at point B causes a force to accelerate the particle away ,hence particle is in unstable equilibrium.
