The velocity of the transverse waves produced by an earthquake is 4.05 km/s, while that of the longitudinal waves is 7.695 km/s.

A seismograph records the arrival of the transverse waves 69.9 s after that of the longitudinal waves. How far away was the earthquake? Answer in units of km.

Answer:

x = 600 Km

Explanation:

given,

speed of transverse wave = 4.05 Km/s

speed of longitudinal wave = 7.695 Km/s

difference of the time of arrival of wave = 69.9 s

now,

t₂ - t₁ = 69.9 s

let x be the distance

\dfrac{x}{4.05} - \dfrac{x}{7.695} = 69.9

x = \dfrac{69.9\times 4.05 \times 7.695}{7.695-4.05}

x = 597.645 Km

x = 600 Km

distance of recorder from the site is 600 Km approximately.

Formula One racers speed up much more quickly than normal passenger vehicles, and they also can stop in a much shorter distance.
Afina-wow [57]

Answer

given,

initial speed of the car = 90 m/s

final speed of the car = 0 m/s

distance taken to stop = 110 m

calculating the acceleration of the car = ?

using the equation of motion

v² - u² = 2 a s

0² - 90² = 2 x a x 100

a = \dfrac{-90^2}{2\times 100}

   a = 40.5 m/s²

acceleration of the formula one car is equal to a = 40.5 m/s²

We say that visible light has wavelength from 400nm to roughly 800nm. What is the biggest "energy-jump" (excited) for an atom if
icang [17]

Answer:

4.98\cdot 10^{-19} J

Explanation:

The energy of the emitted photon is inversely proportional to its wavelength, according to the equation:

E=\frac{hc}{\lambda}

where

h=6.63\cdot 10^{-34} Js is the Planck's constant

c=3.0\cdot 10^8 m/s is the speed of light

\lambda is the wavelength

This means that the biggest energy is released when the wavelength is the shortest. For a photon of visible light, the shortest wavelength is

\lambda=400 nm = 400\cdot 10^{-9} m

So, substituting into the equation, we find the corresponding energy:

E=\frac{(6.63\cdot 10^{-34})(3\cdot 10^8)}{400\cdot 10^{-9}}=4.98\cdot 10^{-19} J

When the velocity of an object is doubled, by what factor is its momentum changed? By what factor is its kinetic energy changed?
anzhelika [568]

Answer:

Kinetic energy would increase by a factor of 4 where as momentum would increase by a factor of 2.

Explanation:

Kinetic Energy is given by 0.5*mass*velocity^2. Kinetic Energy is proportional to Velocity^2.

Momentum is given by mass*velocity. Momentum is proportional to Velocity.

If the velocity of an object is doubled, Kinetic energy would increase by a factor of 2^2 i.e 4 times. Momentum would increase by a factor of 2.
