Biology

Reflex Action is the term that describes the way an organism responds to stimuli. During reflex actions receptors are stimulated, they send signals to the central nervous system, where the brain co-ordinates the response. But sometimes a very quick response is needed, one that does not need the involvement of the brain. Reflex actions are rapid and happen without us thinking. For example, you would pull your hand away from a hot flame without thinking about it.

The term that describes the way an organism responds to stimuli is called behaviour.

Behaviour patterns may be simple or complex. Behaviour is explained through proximate causation and ultimate causation. In proximate causation, it is how behaviour works or ensues, internal state delivers physiologic basis, it is a study that determines physiologic changes like hormone levels. One example is a male songbird singing during mating season, this is because of the level of sex hormone-testosterone which binds to certain receptors in the brain which activates production of song. Ultimate causation on the other hand, explains why behaviour evolved through the years, it studies the behaviour in which it influences survival or reproduction. One example is a female bird during mating season who are mostly attracted by singing male birds and male songbirds have more offspring compared to those who don't influenced that shape behaviour.

Which of these is accomplished by the interaction of haploid cells in sexually reproducing organisms? A. deletion of genetic mat
Licemer1 [7]

The right answer is D.

A gamete is a generally haploid reproductive cell specialized in fertilization, or gamy (that is to say, able to fuse with another gamete, complementary type if necessary), in eukaryotes.

The process that carries out the fusion of two gametes is called fertilization or gamy, it is the complementary event of meiosis. Fertilization produces a new single cell, called a zygote, whose chromosome number has doubled to 2n.

A researcher has developed two stains for use with seed plants. One stains sporophyte tissue blue; the other stains gametophyte
sukhopar [10]

Answer:

A) The pollen grains will be pure red.

Explanation:

Plants have alternation of generations, this means that there are two different stages in their life-cycle: a sexual haploid (n) phase and an asexual diploid phase (2n). These phases occur in different individuals, so there is an haploid plant called gametophyte that carries gametes and after fecundation, it will rise a diploid sporophyte (asexual).

In seed plants, the sporophyte is the plant that we normally see, and the gametophyte is reduced into an organ of the sporophyte. The male gametophyte is the pollen that is produced in the sporangium in anthers (parts of sporophyte).  When a pollen grain fecundes a female gametophyte (egg), it will produce a diploid embryo or new sporophyte.

Therefore, if the researcher exposes pollen to both stains, these grain will stain red, because red stain identifies gametophyte tissue.

Which of the following is a key a function of the glial cells?
Evgen [1.6K]
They are thus known as the "supporting cells" of the nervous system. The four main functions of glial cells are: to surround neurons and hold them in place, to supply nutrients and oxygen to neurons, to insulate one neuron from another, and to destroy and remove the carcasses of dead neurons (clean up).
