A brine is used to measure the absolute permeability of a core plug. The rock sample is 4 cm long and 3 cm 2 in cross section. T

he brine has a viscosity of 1.0 cp and is flowing a constant rate of 0.5 cm3/sec ( cube centimeter per second) under a 2.0 atm pressure differential.

Answer : The absolute permeability is, 0.111 darcys.

Explanation : Given,

Volumetric constant rate = 0.5cm^3/s

Cross section area = 3cm^2

Pressure = 2 atm

Viscosity = 1.0 cp

Length of rock = 4 cm

From the Darcy equation  we conclude that,

\text{Volumetric constant rate}=\frac{(\text{Absolute permeability}\times A\times P)}{\eta \times l}

where,

A = cross section area

P = pressure

\eta = viscosity

l = length of rock

Now put all the given values in the above formula, we get:

0.5cm^3/s=\frac{(\text{Absolute permeability}\times 3cm^2\times 2\text{ atm})}{1.0cp \times 4cm}

\text{Absolute permeability}=0.111\text{ darcys}

Therefore, the absolute permeability is, 0.111 darcys.

How many moles of ammonia are in 735. mL of a 4.25 M aqueous ammonia solution?
zysi [14]

Answer:

*moles = molarity(M=moles/L) * volume (L)

so, you have 4.25 * 0.735 moles

*NH3

* M=n/v

*To determine the number of significant figures in a number use the following 3 rules: Non-zero digits are always significant. Any zeros between two significant digits are significant. A final zero or trailing zeros in the decimal portion ONLY are significant.

35.0 grams of nitrogen gas reacts with 60.0 grams of hydrogen gas: N2 + 3H2--> 2NH3
Misha Larkins [42]

Explanation:

Moles of N2 = 35.0g / (28g/mol) = 1.25mol

Moles of H2 = 60.0g / (2g/mol) = 30.0mol

Since 1.25mol * 3 < 30.0mol, nitrogen is limiting.

Moles of NH3 = 1.25mol * 2 = 2.50mol.

Mass of NH3 = 2.50mol * (17g/mol) = 42.5g.

30.0mol - 1.25mol * 3 = 26.25mol.

Excess mass of H2

= 26.25mol * (2g/mol) = 52.5g.
