Imagine that you have obtained spectra for several galaxies and have measured the observed wavelength of a hydrogen emission lin

e that has a rest wavelength of 656.3 nanometers. Here are your results:Galaxy 1: Observed wavelength of hydrogen line is 660.0 nanometers.Galaxy 2: Observed wavelength of hydrogen line is 665.8 nanometers.Galaxy 3: Observed wavelength of hydrogen line is 682.7 nanometers.Calculate the redshift, z, for each of these galaxies.

Answer:

Galaxy 1:

z = 0.0056

Galaxy 2:

z = 0.014

Galaxy 3:

z = 0.040

Explanation:

Spectral lines will be shifted to the blue part of the spectrum¹ if the source of the observed light is moving toward the observer, or to the red part of the spectrum when is moving away from the observer (that is known as the Doppler effect). The source in this particular case is represented for each of the galaxies of interest.

Hence, the redshift represents this shift of the spectral lines to red part in the spectrum of a galaxy or any object which is moving away. That is a direct confirmation of how the universe is in an expanding accelerated motion.

The redshift can be defined in analytic way by means of the Doppler velocity:

v = c\frac{\Delta \lambda}{\lambda_{0}}  (1)

Where \Delta \lambda is the wavelength shift, \lambda_{0} is the wavelength at rest, v is the velocity of the source and c is the speed of light.

v = c(\frac{\lambda_{measured}-\lambda_{0}}{\lambda_{0}})

\frac{v}{c} = \frac{\lambda_{measured}-\lambda_{0}}{\lambda_{0}}

z = \frac{\lambda_{measured}-\lambda_{0}}{\lambda_{0}}  (2)

Where z is the redshift.

<em>For the case of Galaxy 1: </em>

Where \lambda_{measured} = 660.0 nm and \lambda_{0} = 656.3 nm.

z = \frac{\lambda_{measured}-\lambda_{0}}{\lambda_{0}}

z = (\frac{660.0 nm - 656.3 nm}{656.3 nm})

z = 0.0056

<em>For the case of Galaxy 2: </em>

Where \lambda_{measured} = 665.8 nm and \lambda_{0} = 656.3 nm.

z = \frac{665.8 nm - 656.3 nm}{656.3 nm}

z = 0.014

<em>For the case of Galaxy 3:</em>

Where \lambda_{measured} = 682.7 nm and \lambda_{0} = 656.3 nm.

z = \frac{682.7 nm - 656.3 nm}{656.3 nm}

z = 0.040

A body travel according to the law x(t)=2t+3t3 calculate the accelaration of body at t=2s
faust18 [17]

Answer:

28m/s

Explanation:

Given law,

⇒ x(t) = 2t + 3t³

Where, t = 2s

Then,

⇒ x(2) = 2(2) + 3(2)³

⇒ 4 + 3(8)

⇒ 4 + 24

⇒ 28 m/s

Acceleration is 28m/s

A student pushes a 12.0 kg box with a horizontal force of 20 N. The friction force on the box is 9.0 N. Which of the following i
Hoochie [10]

The acceleration of the box is approximately 1 m/s^2

Explanation:

According to Newton's second law of motion, the net force acting on the box is equal to the product between its mass and its acceleration:

\sum F = ma

where

\sum F is the net force

m = 12.0 kg is the mass of the box

a is the acceleration

The net force can be written as

\sum F = F_a - F_f

where

F_a = 20 N is the applied forward force

F_f=9.0 N is the friction force

Combining the two equations,

F_a-F_f=ma

And solving for the acceleration,

a=\frac{F_a-F_f}{m}=\frac{20-9}{12}=0.9 m/s^2\sim 1 m/s^2

Water has a specific heat of 4.184
LuckyWell [14K]

Answer:

Water.

Explanation:

This means:

1) For the temperature of water to raise at any point to the next degree by 1°C, will require a specific heat capacity of  4.184  J/Kg°C

2) For the temperature of wood to raise at any point to the next degree by 1°C, will require a specific heat capacity of  1.760  J/Kg°C

Note that: specific heat is directly proportional to energy, therefore the higher the heat capacity, the higher the energy.

4.184  J/Kg°C is higher than 1.760  J/Kg°C, hence WATER needs more energy.

Beth moves a 15 N book 20 meters in 10 seconds. How much power was produced?
Mice21 [21]

Answer:

30 Watts

Explanation:

 Power = Work/Time

Work = Force*Distance

Power = Force * Distance / Time

Power = 15 N * 20 meters / 10 sec

Power = 30 Watts
